Hi,

My husband got his Green Card in September. We were under the impression that we didn't have to worry about replacing the Social Security card right away because the Green card says you are authorized to work and live in the US on the back. He still has a social security card with the stamp that says it does not authorize you to work, but the GC is what counts. Does anyone know what the truth is?

When I got my SS card that says not authorize to work, the lady told me to go back there when I will have my green card.

I'm still waiting for mine though.

He souldd go and update his status with SSA and also get a unrestricted SSN card. He will still have the same number just the restriction withh be removed.

If he decides in the future to become a Citizen he should again up-date the SSA.

The SS card # is good for life. If you don't like the authorization statement just go back, they will issue a new one.
