Thank you very much MandyR, but honestly I doubt that my hubby will want for us to move to Miami, he says that he is a New Yorker and he is afraid of Hurricanes (me too), plus he's italian and we have all the family living near us :crying: .

What about Rosy? is she attending the Big Party from our school in Lima? is going to be in August 9th with Joselito's Band, I' ve been to one with Sil and we had an AWESOME time.

Susita, Isn't the Upper East Side consider the most expensive area in New York ???? Don't worry about your fiance, he is going to get used to the expensive prices here (comparing to Lima, of course), I remember when I first moved here I used to bring my calculator with me everywhere.

We are hating the weather right now, I miss the time when we had 60 degrees!!!

Vi... Yeah, I think the Upper East Side is the most expensive but Long Island follows close behind. These are the most expensive "suburbs" to live in in the country, besides a lot of California suburbs. Property taxes are unreal and the dream of owning a home is far out of my reach, because home prices are rediculous too.

Let's put it into perspective. I have a studio apartment that I pay $900 a month for, but here's the catch, it's my mom's house. LOL. This apartment would go for at least $1200 a month if she rented it to anyone else.

A normal sized ranch house starts at about 350,000 and taxes at about 6,000 depending on where you live. Because I am lucky enough to live in a nice neighborhood (I don't know if I'm really lucky lol but) taxes are about $8500 a year here.

Sometimes I wonder why I didn't move to Peru with Luis, lol

How's everybody doing tonight?

Estoy tan cansada porque fui a un casamiento anoche y había open bar, entonces ya saben! De verdad era una ceremonia bonita y nos divertimos mucho pero wow....

me voy a dormir!

Unfortunately Rossy won't make it to the BIG PARTY... she told me all about it and is sad she won't be there. She tried to get a flight around that time, but it was so expensive. She and little Sebastien will be leaving on August 20 and coming back on September 3.

Well, if you guys ever come down here on vacation, let us know. We would love to meet you guys and have dinner.

I have been through 2 hurricanes, Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and Hurricane Wilma in 2005.

I think the worst part of it is after the storm. Dealing with all the devestation, no power with over 90 degree heat. No Water. Cooking on a grill every day. Food going bad.......... NO FUN

But as we say down here.... "You want to live in paradise, you have to pay the price"

MandR ~ Yeah, everything is rediculously expensive up here. I don't know what I'm going to do... I am in college to be a teacher, but I highly doubt that income will be sufficient to buy a home, we'll see what job Luis gets when he moves here.

As for a diamond ring or an expensive wedding, LOL that's way out of the picture. I was thinking a nice reception maybe in a hall or maybe in a friend's yard (which is gorgeous) and we'll do all the decorating and cooking. The diamond ring will be on my wish list, lol.

I'm really sad too, I won't be able to attend the party and this is a special year for my class, we graduated from HS 10 YEARS AGO!! I'll have to enjoy the pictures that my friends send me through email. We are flying to Peru the same date, August 20th via LanChile and we are coming back on the 31st, just a few days but we are planing to enjoy as much as we can plus we are going to celebrate my b-day there, party time  .

Funny that you mention diamonds 'cause I work in the diamond industry nothing related to my career that is Tourism and Hospitality but I'm very happy with my job, can't complain, I see hundreds of diamonds everyday and I have to say that I'm not into diamonds - anymore.

I promise that if someday we go to Florida we'll visit you and if you plan to come to NYC let us know we'll be more than happy to meet you guys.

Susita

My hubby is a HS teacher, he loves it  I have to say that we have a decent life here but the salary is not WOW, he loves all the vacation time he gets and the impact he makes on tke kids lives I'm more than proud of him, he puts alot of dedication preparing his lessons and he is very creative too.

What about Luis? Does he know what would he like to do when he moves to the States? I remember Sil used to tell me to start looking for jobs when I was still living in Lima, just to have an idea.

Well guys hope you had a great weekend

Take care!

Vi ~ He has to continue going to school for English because his English isn't that great. Basically, his family has a business in Lima so he's been doing that his whole life so we'll have to see what he wants to do when he gets here. He's most likely going to go to community college which I think is a great idea.

I agree with your husband, I'd rather have a job I love than a lot of money. We may suffer for a while not being able to afford a house, but later on we'll make it work.

:wow: My wife and I live in a 3 bed-1 bath here in little ol' Kansas and our total payment (mortgage, taxes, and insurance) is less than what the monthly tax payment alone would be on a house like that!

I know OMG it is late pero, bueno, mejor que sea tarde, al menos lo digo .....

FELIZ 28 DE JULIO!!! Sorry that I didn't post anything yesterday I was too busy messing with Luis on the phone, he was partying and a lil' tipsy haha. Always fun.

SKTEAMO ~ I would love to live somewhere cheap. The fact of the matter is, I can't. My mom would kill me if I left Long Island, hell she'd kill me if I left this county. I wanted to move to Perú for a few years but I'm afraid she'd send the national guard after me. That's why she's so OK with Luis coming here. That means I can't leave, LOL.

A good friend of mine is moving to Kansas, he lived there before and says he can't stand the cost of things here. I however, have known nothing else (other than Puerto Rico, and honestly, that's an option if I ever do move) and I love it here, and I guess I'm willing to suffer through it for the time being. Starting teacher's salary here is in the high 40's and low 50's so I won't be dirt poor, I just will have to rent for a while. Luis is going to work too, not sure what he wants to do yet, but as he told me "a mi no me importa que haga, puedo hacer lo que sea" so basically he'll do whatever job he can get at first and he's going to go to community college.

Right now he's in el Britanico instituto learning English. He picks it up really quick I'm proud of him. There's a community college program here in NY (our colleges are part of the state university system, they're excellent. I did my 2-year degree at community college and transfered to the State University of NY at Stony Brook, I saved soooo much money doing it that way). So first he has to take a year of intensive english classes (college level) and then he takes the TOEFL and if he passes, he just starts a course of study there.

So we will hopefully both have a college education in a few years and be able to do things with it, so living here might not be impossible. Both of us are not big spenders, we like to save money, so we should be OK I hope.

I will def. keep Kansas in mind though!

~ Suzy

Feliz 28 de Julio.

Don't get me wrong, you can definitely spend a lot of money on a house here in Kansas. But I imagine you'd get a LOT more than what you would get in NY. There's just not the big city life here. At my job we do a lot of work with multi-million dollar custom home builders. The last house I went out to look at was $2.2 million. But I think it was around 8,000-10,000 square feet, in a very nice part of town on a wooded lot, and right on a very nice golf course. From what I hear, something like that in NY would probably cost a bit more. A friend and his wife just recently bought a house for about $350k...4 beds, 3.5 baths, full finished walkout basement, 3-car garage, with a nice view. The house we're living in now is quite a downgrade from the last house we lived in that we sold. We moved into a rental house that I was trying to sell for about 6 months...didn't even get one showing. It was either let it go into foreclosure or make the most of the situation. So now we're fixing it all up, waiting for the market to turn around, and enjoying the $435/month payment for now. Plus, it's in a pretty "Latin" area, so it's good for Erika. In about three or four years, the loan should be paid off, house fixed up, and we should be able to get about $70k-$80k for a down payment on a nice cozy home in the suburbs.

My ideal situation though, would be to be frugal enough so that by about early- to mid-50's, we would be able to retire and live in Peru...maybe some place in Miraflores....and spend all of our time traveling around Peru and the rest of South America. I get excited just thinking about it!

SKTEAMO ~

You have an awesome plan. My plan was to basically save up, buy a house here and then at some point get a house in Peru. I will have every summer off because I'm going to be a teacher, so in that case, will be able to travel quite a bit. Luis is also thinking about teaching phys ed. He's an awesome soccer player and enjoys every kind of sport. Not to mention, he loves kids. So hopefully, in a few years, we may both be teachers and that would be awesome for traveling.

New York is expensive. It's a hard knock life as Jay-Z (or Annie, depending on who you like better) says it.

It's really interesting that you have everything planned, our plan is much easier and cheaper, we are getting my In Law's house!!!

They live in a house and they rent the second floor. The family that lives there is planning to move soon and they offered us that place for free! My hubby was really excited in the beginning but he knows that I can't stand his dad so he had to say : THANK YOU BUT WE ARE NOT INTERESTED.

I know alot of people are thinking that I'm nuts but living with my father in law would be a complete nightmare.

We have a few friends that moved outside of NYC, they bought beautiful houses in Cortland Manor- Westchester, huge houses with huge land in a very quiet, safe and clean area and two of them payed about $350 000 not bad right? the only bad thing is that they work in the City and it takes them about 1hr 1/2 to get to Grand Central.

I would love to move to Peru someday but first Sil has to learn to speak perfect spanish so my "paisanos" will stop taking advantage of him. As a teacher he can work in one of the many american schools we have in Lima, they offer awesome benefits for the american teachers. Another thing is that after three years of living here and after being homesick for a long period of time I start to like NYC, I feel so much safer than in Peru and there are so many things to do here.

Gotta go

Saludos
