My wife received her passport with visa enclosed as well as the mystery brown envelope today!

That's a good thing because we leave on Saturday for the states.

In all the process took almost 60 days. We filed our I-130 on 08 December and the petition was approved. The longest part was waiting on the Australian background check, since it was near the holidays all the reviewers in the Fingerprints division in the Australian Federal Police decided to take about 5 weeks off, so NOBODY was doing background checks. We got the mail on LAST MONDAY when our interview was last Thursday.

In any case, everything was quick, easy and comfortable. Everyone was friendly.

Total cost ended up being about $1200 or so. The I-864 looks real complicated but its not. I was really loose with my figures, plugged them in and even used an email from my HR folks in the states verifying my salary when I start work there and it was accepted as proof of income along with my 2008 W-2's and 2007 tax returns.
