I lived in a cold city in Brasil myself, and we had carpets in the hallway and bedrooms for years, but then we got sick of having to use the steamer on them (we always had pets) and pulled it all up, we had some really nice parquet floors underneath so it worked great. Also our living room had always been wood floors and still we vacuumed everything. Vacuums have the nozzle for wood floors as well, not just carpets. My apartment here is tiny so I haven't bought one yet but the minute we move somewhere more permanent and bigger I am buying one again, even if we don't own a single rug.

I'm not going with the fashion of middle names I think, not something we do that much in Brasil unless they're already names known to go in pairs or something I feel necessary. Hard enough to think of one perfect name let alone two!

Of course my husband being in a Luis, Enrique, Pablo family wants to use it. I won't have it. In his family it goes: his dad is Luis Enrique, his uncle is Pablo Luis, his cousin is Pablo, he is Luis Pablo, his great grandpa was Enrique something. Argh! He actually told me wanted our first son to be called Luis Enrique. I vetoed it.

I like the name Enzo Staashi, I really do.

Thanks, ladies - we wanted something that would be good here or in Arg. I loved Enzo as it was short and sweet and very easy to spell. We chose his middle name because that was his grandfather's name.

One of my students here in Brazil is named Luis Henrique. But I agree that it is quite a common name. My name -Marina- is very common here in Brazil, but in the US, hardly anyone has this name! When I was growing up no one knew how to say it at all, but here everyone recognizes it...which helps!

And I was 5lbs 5oz when I was born...I was tiny (totally full term though, just tiny).

Yeah, I've had the name discussion with Luis as we wanted to pick names that have the same pronunciation both here and in Brasil. Of course I believe we're still a year from the baby talk but we've been talking kids (numbers and names) since we got married.

If we have a girl the name's been picked since before we got engaged. It's the name I chose as a kid and never changed, and luckily he likes it as well. For a boy though, well, he keeps picking names that sound Spanish in a way that would be different in Brasil. Like Alejandro, which is nice, but our J is not pronounced the same way.

yeah benjamin is pronounced pretty much the same way here and brazil. just the e in ben would be a bit different, here it's bén, in brazil it's ben lol nobody will understand that but laura.

and the ja would be dja here and ja there lol
