well personally I prefer the no-baked kind..

marilyn you always have to pick the less time consuming, easier, and cheaper version of everything so i'm not surprised by that. it saddens me that you and many others haven't been able to experience/know truly amazing food with incredible flavors and textures.

I do no-baked 'cus it's easier. I like any kind, although I'm not a big fan of the flavored ones, like chocolate cheesecake, but love jam on spread on top.

um, I have eaten baked cheesecake before and I like it fine.. I just prefer the taste and texture of no-bake cheesecake...

and I don't always choose the less time consuming, cheaper easier version of things ..lol

the ice cream in a zip lock bag comes to mind. it's not really something to debate. we have different opinions of what good food is. i think some homecooked or homestyle type foods are good (especially if time is an issue), but they in no way compare to the type of food i'm used to. if given the choice of making something like cheesecake or ice cream or even dinner, i almost always go for the more decadent thing. if you're going to take the time to do something you might as well go all out. with that i will say that it probably takes me a lot less time to cook things "OTT" things than it does the normal person. i bang stuff like that out pretty quick because it was my career. i don't expect everyone to have the time, energy, or drive to cook like i do all the time. every once in awhile i don't even feel like cooking how i do. those days i just make something simple, i don't take shortcuts :)

yeah I know I take short cuts sometimes.. I don't and haven't denied it...

well, we will have to agree to disagree because I prefer home-style cooked meals.. I am a meatloaf and mashed potato girl and I always will be...

my issue is that I don't like to be made to seem stupid or whatever for liking what I like..

yes i worked all over europe in many 3 star michelin restaurants. did a lot of stages there too. i worked for a few celeb chefs. was a travelling chef for a big corporation. owned 2 cafes. then i retired young and at the top of my game because i knew i wouldn't be able to do it my entire life. i really think owning my own businesses really killed it for me. i never was able to get away from it. i would come home and i had even more work to do.

yeah I know I take short cuts sometimes.. I don't and haven't denied it...

Of course I am but a noob no talent cook but always liked it anyway, growing up I was the Sunday cook at my house, 'cus in Brasil it's very common to have a cook throughout the week to make lunch (which is our main meal of the day) and on Sundays brazilian families tend to make a nicer meal and get together for a slow lunch. So Monday thru Saturday we'll have rice, beans, a veggie and/or salad and a protein (beef, chicken, fish, whatever) but nothing complicated and then on Sunday it's when we make the "fancier" dishes or something easy but one dish (like a pasta where you get your veggies protein and carb all in one) in a big quantity for the family.

Anyway, I grew up being the Sunday cook so I always liked making Strogonoff over white rice and homemade straw fries, Mignon medallions with piamontese rice, paella, lasagnas, gnoqui, etc. Was also the official cake maker. Over there it's all from scratch no cake mixes.

Now I am married and out here and even though am not working right now I just HATE dealing with the kitchen. I still enjoy making the more special meals but day to day rice beans and something just kills me. I run out of ideas, I start cooking rice that will last for 2-3 days when I used to like my rice fresh every lunch, etc. I see myself going the shortcut more and more often. I mostly blame it on the kitchen (had a big spacious one at mom's house and the nice appliances, am on rental with tiny everything) and absurd prices of fresh food here in Puerto Rico, but I also know I like to cook different stuff, not everyday stuff.

What saddens me is that a lot of people aren't as nice as someone like Marilyn or sometimes not even that nice to her at all when she doesn't deserve that. Just because you think some kind of food is incredible or amazing doesn't mean everyone will. Like how you hate Indian food while many of us LOVE it and find it incredible. Sorry, I couldn't keep my mouth quiet after reading these posts.

Marilyn is way cool.

Even though I don't like Indian food or any other food I say I don't like, every time I see something different (even Indian food) or prepared a different way I will try it. I'm very open to trying things. My main problem with Indian food is tumeric because it makes me sick to my stomach.

For the record, I wasn't attacking Marilyn at all. From past experience of what she says she likes and doesn't like, I wasn't at all surprised when she said she liked the no bake version.
