so it would cook from 8am to 7pm? isnt that a bit exagerated? poor electricity bill.

also i don't cook on weekdays elaborate meals. all i cook when i come home is something easy and simple, like i'll grill chicken breast, cook some rice and broccoli, or i'll make egg white omelete or i'll make vegetable soup. all of those take less than 30 min.

the soup i always make 4 servings and freeze it. the chicken is already frozen in single 4 oz portions so it's easy to defrost, eggs cook real fast, so does rice.

have you considered a crock pot? when I want to cook something slow (for hours) or create a meaty soup stock (with minimal attention required) ... the pot comes out of the closet and gets fired up. basically ... it's ... load it, cover it, turn it on, and forget about it till later.

i've been debating buying one, because my cooking method is always the faster possible. that's why i like to use a pressure cooker. i can';t really imagine start cooking something at 6 am to eat at 2pm. but for cupim would be a great idea, all i need is a crock pot and find a cupim cut.

well the beauty of a crock pot is you can start food when you leave for work and it's ready when you get home :)

What if you only have to work for an hour or two?

i'd never get a job where i spend gasoline and time going to just for 1 or 2 hours of work.

I dont know about electricity bill, but with crockpot cooked beef comes out really tender and then I can use it as taco or anything.

I bought crockpot accidently, didnt' even know about their existence but now I love them. At first I couldn't fathom cooking for that long hours but I found some recipes on youtube and I try those, and I have been really happy with the outcome.

I still love my pressure cooker but you should give crockpot a try, I think it was around $30 at walmart when we bought.

Btw Nessa, just looked back a few pages and the cuts I use to make carne assada on the pressure cooker here would be the top or bottom round, which from appearance looks like a lagarto, the other options would be the chuck roast or the brisket, which I believe would look like a fraldinha.

I was given a CP years ago and it has spent most of it's life in the closet. (Learned how to use a CP from my busy mom when I was much younger). I still rarely use the thing, just use it when I'm time constrained or want to cook something real slow as a meal compliment ... not for the complete meal.

How popular are CPs is Brazil?

Not at all popular, we rarely use electric appliances other than the blenders and mixers, so fryers, crockpots or rice cookers aren't too popular.

We use the pressure cooker for anything that doesn't get tender fast.

That makes sense ... Isa wasn't familiar with the CP and all I've seen are gas cooking appliances at her friends & family kitchens. I was used to the twist top pressure cooker ... not the tilt lid/ insert lid/ latch with the little wire loop on the end of the handle variety.

I'm like nessa when it comes to cooking ... I get in the kitchen and get the job done so I can move on to other things and not spend forever cooking or cleaning. I also like simple low sodium/fat foods. Yet there are days when I want to pretend there is more time so some meals just take longer to cook.
