Hok is from Japan, although according to the website he grew up in Oxford and now lives in LA. I thought it was weird that Nigel would assume Hok identifies with Japanese culture. Who knows if he does?

True. I wouldn't say that he is hardly Japanese though, just because he grew up in England. He may very well identify with Japanese culture. Seeing that he was born there, I think it's probably the case that he does.

ETA: It was a weird comment though. It would be like saying that to all of the contestants with Latino-sounding first names when they do the tango or the mambo.

Right. I think it was a risky comment for him to make, but he was probably right.

I only started watching right before the Rumba, and they were amazing!

The Jazz routine was to an "Memoirs of a Geisha" soundtrack, but Hok is hardly Japanese.

I can understand the other comment on guys dancing like "Men"; I think it is because guys doing ballroom dancing often look feminine, over the top.... and some of these dances like the tango, samba and so on require a guy to look like the "stronger sex" ... like the coreographer told them, cat and mouse....

Not like the waltz for example where the guy is the gentleman. Does that make any sense?

Which one is Cedric again?

Cedric is the one who Debbie Allen invited to her academy. He danced with Shauna.

Cedric really needs to go home. And letting Jessi go with absolutely no explanation for us was not cool. And Jesus was my favorite, so I wasn't exactly happy with that. I think Jaime should have gone. The emerging Jessi-Pasha love story was pretty cute.

PS I want them to let Pasha go so that he goes back to his old job as a dance instructor in NY, so that I may one day take lessons with him. Hehehe.

I DVR this, so we just watched both shows tonight. I can't believe that Cedric wasn't in the bottom 3 couples. I bet the judges are re-thinking their decision to keep him because he's "unique." And Danny was SO pissed, he could barely control himself!

I'm also really really surprised that Jessi got kicked off. I liked her a lot. I thought either Lauren or Sarah would have gone.

Oh, my bad. I didn't read his bio and he looked more like Vietnamese, just goes to show what judging by looks will do ;)

And he grew up in REAL Oxford, that makes me so happy. When you hear names of places like Paris, and Oxford and such I go to thinking of the real thing; and then I moved here and here when they say Paris they mean Paris somewhere in Alabama with 2000 people :P *sigh*

I liked Jessi :crying:

I watched. I didn't really like the solo they all did. I'm just not into that kind of thing. I haven't really been keeping up with this thread so I don't know what you all have discussed previously. I have a few favorites but they are all girls. I don't particularly like any of the guys better than another.

I have to say, Lacey is my most favorite of the girls. That's mostly because she is Benji's sister and I loved him from last year.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

A quick and belated comment about Hok and his culture... he does speak Japanese during one of the interview segments. So it's clear that he at least still relates to it in some way.

In either case, I wasn't all that thrilled with last night's show. Perhaps it was because I was half house-cleaning and editing my husband's school essay, but very few of the routines really got to me. I thought some people put more emotion into the solo than others, especially the little b-girl. She seemed to have the most emotion in it of anyone. Wasn't thrilled with most of the dances, and... for the first time I can say that this week's episode left me bored.

Yeah, it's getting to the point where I'm fond of almost everyone who is still left in the show. I was surprised and glad that the two eliminated last night had the grace to take their elimination so well. They seemed so excited just to be included in the show and in the traveling performances to come afterwards.

I just hope for a better show next week.

Lastnight was a tough one, cause everyone is so good. I did have a feeling Cameron would be going, as it seems when he danced on his own he didnt have that special "whatever" Lacey definitely made him a better dancer when they were partners IMO I REALLY like Danny and Sabra

I think it's too bad that Nigel had to apologize for the solos. Whatever anyone thinks about war, dancing is still an art and a form of expression.

I totally agree.
