Hotels in Dakar

CAn anyone give me some names of "reasonably" priced hotels in Dakar PLEASE! Less than $60 a night would be wonderful.

I found one called Cap Quest on the ausenegal website. It looks very nice and IF their site is current I believe (if my French isn't failing me) it's about $45 a night. Any experiences here?

The best hotel is the Hotel Atlantic. Its only a few minutes from the airport (maybe 5 minutes or less) and its very reasonably priced. I stayed there for two weeks and it didn't break my budget at all.

They have free wifi for your laptop and free continental breakfast every morning.

Also, I visited the hotel farid in downtown dakar. it seemed nice (be sure to look only at rooms with 3 digits ...like xxx).

I didn't stay because it seemed a bit more expensive than the atlantic hotel,..though they do have a restaurant next door and it is in the heart of downtown dakar. so I guess you get what you pay for. lol.

This is off subject but, WG, how much are ticket prices to Dakar? Hubby and I will be going to LIB within 1-3 months and we are most likely going to fly through Senegal. Back in November, I was looking at March tickets and they were about $1200 RT.

I used to have an uncle who worked at Delta and had the hookup on buddy passes, but he is no longer there. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone else who is offering those.

This is off subject but, WG, how much are ticket prices to Dakar? Hubby and I will be going to LIB within 1-3 months and we are most likely going to fly through Senegal. Back in November, I was looking at March tickets and they were about $1200 RT.

February and March are the least expensive times to go, followed by November & the first half of December. $1200 sounds about right. I'm leaving mid-May and my ticket is about $1750.

When I stay in Dakar, I use Hotel Oceanic-- its not too expensive, and the more nights you stay, the less the rate. http://www.hoteloceanicdakar.com/

It's right in center city, and they have breakfast downstairs included in the rate!

L'Hotel du phare des mamelles! It's not in central dakar (a huge bonus in my book) but is right below the lighthouse and only a fifteen or twenty minute car rapide ride from centre ville (about 75-100 cfa for a car rapide and maybe 1000-1500 for a taxi depending on bargaining skills). It's really cute and comfortable and colorful and on the beach...and, a single room is only 15,000 cfa (when I stayed there) or 30 ish dollars. It's maybe 3,000 cfa more for air conditioning, but you shouldn't need that this time of year. Oh-and it's closer to the airport, so you won't get charged as much (the cab rates from the airport are ridiculous).
