Hi,

I need some help.

I am going to get my SSN card. I want to know that can I use my married name on the SSN card?

It is because I applied my AOS, EAD in my maiden name and my own country passport also in Maiden name too.

If I apply my SSN card, and DL in married name, will I have any problem when I am travelling / doing the tax / creating more trouble?

(I see the problem that my EAD and green card will be in my maiden name but my SSN and DL will be in my married name)

Thanx

My wife got her social when she first came with her maiden name; then she did the change to the married name. You can do a search on the forums, and most people recommend using the married name. When traveling you just carry your marriage certificate to show that your name changed. However, this shouldn't be much of an issue, as long as you buy your plane ticket with the name of the id you will use to board the plane. For example, if you're traveling outside the country, you will use your passport most likely. What name is in your passport? Then use that name to buy the plane ticket. If you use the married name, then you will have to carry your marriage certificate. If youre traveling nationally, and you have your driver's license in your married name, then buy your plane ticket with the married name.

I know of one couple that left their maiden name on the social and their advice to me was, 'use the married name on the social; we had some trouble for keeping the maiden name.' I can't remember what they said, but all i know is that i did research on this forum with the search function, and I concluded it was best to put the married name.

I agree that the general concensus is that it's better to use the married name. After all, your name is changed when you get married.
