Awww thanks!! Well the funny part is, when I left my job to move here, the boss that invited me to the party guaranteed me a job, the same job I had in Toronto! I wouldn't be working in the same dept or same shift as Glen, so same company but totally different areas (which is good, I don't want to be together 24/7)!! So as soon as I had my EAD, he said I was hired. But, that was about 4 months ago. Since then, the company instated a hiring freeze, and business has gone way down. They are struggling, so unfortunately I don't have a job waiting for me anymore. I came at a bad time, economy wise. I would have had a job if it was any other time. Oh well, I'm here with my love and that's what matters! Hopefully I'll find something when I get my EAD.

My husband and I met on Yahoo 360. My sister had added him from one of her friend's profiles. Then she told me to check him out because he was cute. So I went to his profile, thought, yeah he's cute, and said hello. Of course you know the rest of the story. Started commenting back and forth, found we had things in common, was feeling chemistry on an anonymous social networking site (how weird can that be??), moved on to email, phone, and webcam chats. Decided to meet a few weeks later, and I flew to Canada and spent a few days with him. We got married 9 months after meeting online. :-) As someone posted earlier, yes, my moving to Canada would have been quicker than his coming to Texas (and that's what he really wanted), but I have family and career here, so we are trying for him coming here first.

My honey and I meet on Farmersonly.com, talked online and on the phone for about a year then he drove the 2000 miles to meet me. Over two years later and many trips back and forth on both of our parts we decided that we wanted more. So we began the K1 Journey back in September. Now we are awaiting packet 4!

Unlike many of your stories, I met my fiancee almost 30 years ago.

We grew up in South Western Ontario. Our families attended the same church together. She was a couple of years older than me but I was completely infatuated with her. Her younger sister liked me and I have since heard she was always mad at her older sister for taking me from her. I wish I had known then.

There are a number of stories through those early childhood years. We went on a week long family boat trip up the Rideau Canal one year and during that trip my beloved dropped a necklace at a dock we were tied at for a day camping. I, ignored my friends and spent hours looking for it. I eventually found it. I gave it to her hoping to win her heart. In my dreams only.

A few years later when she was a teenager, she worked at Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream. After church on Sunday nights, we would go for ice cream. I would purposefully make sure I could always be lined up so I could get her to serve me. I loved getting ice cream from her. Rocky road, chocolate mint and anything else she ever gave me in those little pink spoons. And her very strong right arm. That impressed me. But she never knew how much I liked her. And even if I had, she was just that little bit too old for me. But in my heart she was my beautiful.

Our lives went from there... in very separate ways. For almost 30 years. And lots of story that affected our lives in the interim. Then about 5 years ago I was speaking at a conference in San Diego. One of my friends, who happened to be my beloved's cousin, suggested I look her up as she lived there. She thought we would understand each other a lot and have much in common. So I got her email address and wrote her. And we arranged to meet and have dinner.

Wow... the evening came and we met and talked for hours catching up... sharing our lives and where we had been in the previous 30. And it seemed like 5 minutes. She was a kindred spirit. A soul friend. We clicked. For the first time in my life I felt like this person actually got me. I felt so free with her.

But because our lives were what they were... with our individual families, in separate countries, we continued with our lives, not even assuming anything other than that. We didn't communicate for more than 2 years other than a couple of random emails. Mainly because each of us was embroiled and dealing with our own lives. But somehow, that single meal changed something.

And then one day, out of the blue I got an email from her. She was checking in with me. Just to see how I was. And in a wonderfully serendipitous way, we were in the exact same place in our lives. The timing couldn't have been more right. Through difficult days we supported each other remotely.

And then - the rest, as they say - is history. A story that is wonderful to remember and full of delightful anticipation for the future.

Today I am waiting for Packet 3 to show up from Montreal. In many ways I can't believe it and at the same time can't imagine it any other way.

Thanks for letting me share my story. And in some small way, share this journey of immigration with you.

All the best as you create your own wonderful story!

Our story is pretty boring... we met at work. I really didn't know him at work, I was actually his boss for a couple weeks but he was new along with a bunch of other people and I just never met him. We had a new girl move to town for work and I ended up taking her out down town and we ran into him at a bar with another guy from work. Well the new girl and my friend started talking so me and the hubby just hung out while they chatted and ended up talking all night and I haven't been able to get rid of him since, LOL.

Our Journey

6 June 2008- Mailed I130 to Toronto (DCF)

7 Nov 2008- I130 approved in Toronto!!

4 Jan 2009- Mailed Packet back

9 Feb 2009- Medical in Toronto

24 Apr 2009- Interview in Montreal...Approved!!!

Its definately what I would call fate Jill :D

Very cool JillA. Very cool. That was definitely fate and even though I wouldn't say mine was necessarily fate, it sounds familiar.

I've known Wayne since 2004. We work for the same company and attend some of the same conferences. After truly learning what his group did in Ontario, I realized that my group in Indiana could do some things for him for free that they were currently paying for. We started that in 2006 so the amount of phone and email communication went through the roof. Like JillA, we always did the small talk thing - what did you do on the weekend, how is the family, etc. too. We became very good friends. We had both been married for years, but in the spring of 2007 while we were at a conference, we were talking and found that I was newly divorced and he was in the process of a separation. I didn't know that Canada laws require separation for a year before divorce. Our professional conversations obviously continued, but our personal conversations went up enormously where we were calling and emailing outside of work daily. We both helped each other through enormously tough emotional times.

In December 2007, we decided to see if we could make a long distance relationship work. It seemed like an insane idea, but we're only 5 hours apart and we both like to drive, so we thought WTH let's give it a shot. Needless to say it worked out and I still can't believe it, but we're getting married THIS FRIDAY! Woohoo!!! Did that sound too excited? lol We'll be filing the I-130 as soon as we get our marriage license (early March). His daughters are adults now whereas my son is only 12, so that's why we chose for him to move to the US. Also like JillA, we did have a job for him in our office as the head of a new department. Unfortunately, the recession came along and the new department has been scratched as we had to lay off 1/3 of our office. I know it'####### all companies, but it particularly sucks being in the automotive world like we are. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the economy to perk up during the next year (for more than just my own personal reasons) as I figure in general that's how long it will take for him to get his Visa, but if it doesn't, he'll find something I'm sure.

BTW JillA, I don't know if that's your real first name or not, but I am also Jill and my middle initial is A. Gotta love the similarities. Reading your story really made me smile. :D

Thanks so much! I never thought I'd be 38 years old and so freakin' excited about being married for a second time, but life is funny. My middle name is Alaine. My parents are total dorks. My oldest brother's middle name is Lane and my other brother's middle name is Blaine. They didn't realize that they rhymed until someone pointed it out to them, so by the time I came along, they thought they should stick with the theme. lol I do really love the name Alaine, but the premise behind it is goofy. lol

I digress. Don't want to hijack the topic with middle name discussions. lol Anyway, the whole time I was reading your story I was just smiling like crazy and I'm so happy things worked out for you. Now if I can just get through the next year of paperwork and waiting, all will be good. :)

Tim and I belong to the same church, and every year the Single Adult Ministry organizes trips because no one likes to travel alone! ( well, I guess some do). In 2006, I was just entering my second year as a widow, and the trip was to Hawaii, so I felt it was time to do something fun for me! I did not go with any intentions of meeting someone. The last thing I wanted was to get involved in a relationship.

Tim was on that trip too. We actually didn't really talk with each other until the day before we all left for home. In all, we had about 3 conversations, all about 10 to 15 minutes long. And there was no spark, no chemistry, no singing Angels. However, I did feel that he was the most down to earth, genuine man I had ever met, and I wished I had talked to him more during the week. When we got home, we emailed each other a little, just general small talk, and a few jokes, and my only desire was to build up a friendship with him. The emails, lead to chatting on MSN and Yahoo, to phone calls....to him inviting me down to SC. By this time we both knew it was because we had developed an attraction to each other and wanted to see if there was anything more than friendship. As we had already physically met, I felt safe to fly down to see him. I knew he wouldn't let anything happen to me. That trip lead to him coming up to Vancouver Island to see me, ( his first visit to Canada) and another one later that year to spend Thanksgiving with him and his family. ( They deep fry turkeys in the South!!) More trips the following year, and last October, in Orlando, he asked me to marry him. So now this wonderful world of "hurry up and wait" with the government has become part of our lives! That's ok...I know that there will be a happy ending... :star:

I love your story JillA.... so awesome!!!

:star:

Wow so many of you met your loves online, that's neat! Imagine the days before the internet?

Well I (worked) for a shipping company in Toronto. We have many offices all over the world, it's container shipping and we go everywhere. One office that we deal with the most is the Philly office. I made bookings in the customer service dept, and Glen in Philly is the logistics co-ordinator. Many times I had to call him and ask if we had equipment in Philly that I could book for my customers, and if there was space on a certain vessel. Well this goes back to 2005, we'd chat it up since we were around the same age, ask what he did that past weekend, make small talk. He was so sweet and friendly on the telly and sounded hot but what does a voice tell you, not much about looks haha. So his boss really appreciated all the hard work myself and my co-worker Mel did, and invited us to come to the 2006 company Christmas party in Philly, all expenses paid! I was pretty excited to go, meet everyone I talk to on the telly but especially Glen. I picked out a black strapless dress, I wanted to make a good impression. So off we go to Philly, and arrived Friday afternoon, in time for a tour of the office. In the office they all have tags on their desk, and I saw who was Glen so went right up and gave him a hug. He was on the telly though so we couldn't chat, but I said to myself, damn he's good looking!!

Got changed in the hotel, went to the party. I walk in and see Glen standing alone at the bar waiting for his beer, so I went right up to introduce myself properly this time. There was an instant connection and sparks, we both felt it. He was so easy to talk to, and the entire night we danced and chatted. I barely spoke to anyone else LOL. Well we said our goodbyes and nice to meet you, I had to fly home the next morning. I couldn't get him out of my head, but said to myself this is silly, he lives in Philly nothing can come of this. But Monday morning back at work, I e-mailed him to say how wonderful it was to meet him and I enjoyed his company, he said the same. NY eve was coming soon, so I asked for his cell # so I could text him happy new year. Well from that day forward, we texted non-stop and called eachother. I ended up coming back in February, and we ended up seeing eachother once a month until I moved here! It was fate how we met, because I was invited to the party to meet my future husband!!

OMG sorry! We met at a friend's house over dinner. No online games, no web-dates. I just had to stick up for the mundane on VJ. Please excuse
