This was there with this post. Daughter is at the same dorm, told us this boy had too much beer, passed on when going down the stairs and broke his neck. We know those stair quite well, concrete with a metal edge. Four stories with boys on the 1st and 3rd floors, girls on the 2nd and 4th floors.

We are concerned how this young man got that beer and also concerned about peer pressure. We had a two day parent orientation and this subject was well discussed that the university doesn't let things like this happen. We intend to closely follow this investigation. We feel for the parents of this boy.

The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Campus Security tells Newschannel 7 a 19-year old male student died at St. Michael's Hospital early Saturday morning.

Campus security says he had been found unresponsive in Thomson Hall, a residence hall on the campus.

Students at the University of WIsconsin - Stevens Point Campus tell Newschannel 7 the student was found lying at the bottom of a stairwell in Thompson Hall this morning.

They say he was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

We're told the man went to Random Lake High School and was set to graduate from UWSP in 2012.

Stevens Point Police, UWSP and the Portage County Coroner are continuing to investigate this case.

We will bring you the latest updates as they become available right here on Newschannel 7 and wsaw.com."

Definitely u should follow this up with the school. My husband lived on uni dorm much like your daughter's during his first semester (he is just 26 this year, so it wasnt that long time ago), and told me he left and moved into an apartment outside because of the rowdy parties, too much drugs and alcohol in the dorms, and huge peer pressure. I thought it was just on Hollywood movies :) He is a quiet studious type and cant stand the smell of pot I guess.

I'm actually surprised that things like this don't happen more often. Grew up in Stevens Point, went to school in Madison, and the drinking/party culture is, well, infamous. Every year in Madison, at least one kid died in a gruesome manner - falling off tall buildings, drowning in their own vomit. Even if the school does it's best, students can still go to off campus house parties and get all the beer they can drink.

Sit down, have a talk with your daughter about responsible drinking and the consequences if she's irresponsible. In the end, if she confident in herself and you've taught her well, she should be fine.

Are you actually serious that you are concerned how he got beer??? Everyone supplies in college and lots of people have fake ID's. Any halfway intelligent human being knows how to drink in their room without the hall's mentors knowing. And you are concerned about peer pressure??? EVERY major college campus short of BYU has a drinking culture. You have a bunch of adolescents who for the first time in their lives are living away from mom and dad and have easy access to alcohol. Who doesn't drink in that situation. What we need is a culture shift regarding drinking. We teach kids that it is this exciting, but forbidden thing so EVERYONE wants to do and no one at that age knows how to do it responsibly. If kids were taught that alcohol is a nice thing every once in a while when drunk in a responsible way and isn't this great big exciting right of passage, then we wouldn't have half these incidences. Talk to your daughter and make sure she knows how to drink responsibly and then chill. If the dorms are really heavy into alcohol get her an apartment with people you trust next year.

Hi Nick.. Umm and Msu are right re having the talk with your daughter, Im sure you guys did when you sent her there, but I suppose as a debriefing to what just happened also. I can imagine being worried for my (future) kids too, as in the case of my husband, as people came in and out of his room for parties/smoking pot and stuff with his roommate, not just out in the dorm alley etc. Was quite distracting for him to be able to study and just chill according to his definition, among other concerns. I myself studied in a boarding school when i was in high school, there wasnt any alcohol going around there, but other sort of peer pressure definitely. :)
