I am working and making over 125% of poverty. By the way, are 2008 or 2009 poverty guidelines being used? I have read they will start using the 2009 guidelines on April 1, 2009. Is this correct? I was self employed and did not earn enough income to file income taxes for 2006, 2007, and 2008. I don't have a cosponsor but I have been working full time since early December 2008. I will include employment verification letter and pay receipts. I have read that my current income is what is important. I have specific reasons why my income is lower in the past and I will include a letter detailing these reasons. Anyone have any advice? Thank you very much.

You are almost there and now you have to deal with the embassy. This is the place to post your experiences or questions related to this last step before moving to the US. Topics relating to I-134's, packets sent from consulate and medical & police certificates should be posted here.

2009 guidelines will be posted March 1 and the consulates will begin to use them April 1.

We do not know what they will be yet. Since the poverty guidelines are designed and used to keep a certain number of people 'in poverty' in order to justify the spending of billions to "try" and get them out of poverty, and we have just elected an administration that thrives on the "need" for federal government, then you can expect a hefty increase in this years guidelines, a resultant increase in the number of people in poverty (just when they thought they were getting out) and a resulting "need" to confiscate more of your earned income to pay for the "increasing poverty problem". See how it works?

If your interview is after April 1, you will need to have received a raise, or if you qualify anyway, you will be just that much closer to being in poverty! :)
