The whole "liberal" and "conservative" thing interests me.

The basic premise behind being a "conservative" is that you wish to "conserve what exists now." Conversely, the "liberal" wants to alter today by "making progressive changes."

It seems to me that today's "liberal" will be tomorrow's "conservative." If the liberals fight for change -- and they get it -- why wouldn't they get upset at someone aiming to change their ideas? If (and when) that occurs, the liberals in this case will essentially become conservatives.

Conservative is suppose to mean you want that old time religion, a liberal is looking for better ways of doing things. Our congress is lawmakers, and they keep on making new laws, but none of them have any knowledge of all the laws on the books in the last 233 years of lawmaking, it's impossible.

To be patriotic means to get your a$$ shot off in VN or in some other god forsaken place if your old man can't send you to Harvard while government contractors here are making money hand over foot. Couldn't believe the likes of Ross would even show his face running for president by becoming a billionaire from selling chit to the government and he calls himself patriotic? This is while our troops weren't even earning minimum wage, for the most part, still that way.

Who's to blame for all this? The American people of course, they let it happen, we are suppose to have a government run by the people, but too busy watching the superbowl or getting tattoos. That is the problem.

Isn't this pretty much the exact same reasoning that bush and cheney used when they were flogging two wars and a patriot act?

There are some significant differences.

Dems voted for the Patriot Act and the wars then complained later they didn't fully know what they were voting for. Here the GOP is taking a position and remain to be seen if they will recant later as the Dems did.

Timing- Dems complained about a rush to war with Iraq that took a year and a half with much debate. Now the Dems want a quick vote in less than a month with debate seen as "playing politics".

One big similiarity I see is the fear factor hyping behind the wars and Obama's hype over the economy.

There is a difference here - noone is being specifically called out as "Unamerican".

Still wonder about that charge. As I've said before I was out of the country during and after 9/11 so I assume you're referring to some remark before I got back in October 2002.

Oh its been around pre-911 and post-911, alien. More recent examples about true Americans et al come to mind. There is a real idiotic need to polarize with cheap politics while the country gets the sh!ts and frankly its pretty pathetic.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
