Help. I uploaded the Universities anti-virus protection Symantec to my laptop and now I can't log into the Yahoo Msgr. This is driving me insane! I can log into my Yahoo Mail and use the Inbox chat but I can't get into the Yahoo Msgr Program myself.

:help:

I'm not sure how to fix that, but you can go to meebo.com and use messenger in a pinch. I actually use it all the time because it stores the chats online for me. You can use your webcam there also, unlike Yahoo's online application.

Under Statues in Symantec I was able to narrow it do to Antivirus and Antispyware Protection. The Proactive Threat Protection and the Network Threat Protection being on do not affect Yahoo Msgr login but the Antivirus and Antispyware Protection does.

If I have to disable it every time to log in to Yahoo Msgr and then turn it back on I will but I know there has to be an easier way to do this to allow Yahoo Msgr to run.

Any IT guys on VJ that know about this?

Thx for the recommendation. I'll check it out.

I'll assume it is Norton 360 (Symantec)

Follow these steps this issue will get resolved, we just have to modify Firewall rules for Yahoo Messenger in Norton 360

1

Start Norton 360.

2

Click Tasks & Settings.

3

Click Change Advanced Settings.

4

Click Firewall Protection Settings.

5

On the Firewall Program Rules tab, in the Program column, scroll through the list until you find the executable file for the program that you are unable to use.

For example, if you are unable to use Yahoo! Messenger, scroll through the list until you find the entry for Yahoo! Messenger. The rule for Yahoo! Messenger will be listed like:

Yahoo! Messenger

C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.ex...

6

Change the Access from Block or Custom to Allow.

7

Click Apply, and then Close.

8

Click Yes.

It's Symantec Endpoint Protection. Thanks for that though. I went in and found something kind of similar but not exactly sure where to go from there. I'll have to explore further or ask on Monday when the IT department opens.

I haven't gone to their technical support office yet cos when ever I pass by there it's always full. So I just turn off one portion of the anti-virus so I can log in for now. Then when I'm in I turn it back on. Somehow I also noticed after loading up Symantec that it won't allow me to connect to my apartment buildings internet either. Good thing I bought the internet down the street. It's much faster than my buildings. :P
