Hello,

I even called USCIS to review all the possible problems with my check and they could not find any.

I sent in a check of 545 in one check to the U.S. dept of homeland security and they sent back my petition with a blue letter saying that my check was screwed up.

"The check you submitted has an incorrect or incomplete guarantee amount, is not signed, or the numerical and written amount do not match. Your application/petitiona can not be processed until the deficiency has been corrected. Please correct and resubmit to the office below."

Was the amount wrong? No - I sent in $545.00!

Is not signed? - Yes its signed

written and numerical amounts dont match? Nope -five hundred fourty five dollars and 0/100's!

What the heck?

I could not find anything wrong with the check - Has this happened to anyone else??

Thanks

Yep it's happen quite a bit that's why some peeps send in separate checks. One for the I-751 and one for the biometrics.

Same trip with AOS and N-400.

I don't think this is why but "Fourty" should be spelled "forty".

That will do it

Wow! That's weird. They returned the whole package to you just because you spelled "forty" wrong? I don't think that's the reason. The check should still go through as long as you write the numeric correctly, but it should be without the "s" after the 100. May be you can call the 1800 and ask. Unless you can post a picture on this forum, we really can't tell what's wrong, may be there is nothing wrong but just the guy who process your package woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning.

What I would do is use red pen to write big letter "VOID" on the original check, send it in with a copy of the return notice and a new check. You can keep a copy of the void check and the original return notice just for your own reference. This time on the new check when you spell it out, you should put "Four Hundred and Forty-five Dollars Even", and numeric should be 545.00. Payable to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security" all spelled out, no short form like USDHS or USCIS. On the bottom where it says "For", you should put "Form I-751 A#xxx-xxx-xxx". Of course don't forget to sign and all writing must be legible. That should help.

Hope you have a better luck next time. May be you can include a letter with the new check saying if you really think it's wrong again this time, please call me at this phone number xxx-xxx-xxxx or give me a detailed letter to tell me what exactly is wrong with it so I can correct it instead of a general blue notice that doesn't tell me anything specific.

Hello, something similar just happened to me. They returned my whole package and the reason is "incorrect or incomplete guarantee amount".  i sent a check of 680$ which is the correct amount and I signed it. I'm attaching a picture of the check. Please tell me what you think or if you think there's another reason for that issue??

I’d say so better to print than use cursive least there would be no confusion.

I work in a bank. That definitely looks like nine hundred eighty instead of six-hundred. They legally have to go by what is written in long-hand and if the written amounts don't match the bank won't accept the check @Mark2. Also this thread is from 2009, it would be wise to just start a new thread just for yourself
