The last time I went to the US I was asked two questions by US customs:

1) How are you today?

2) Where are you going?

Twice before I was asked who I was visiting. I said, "my fiance". Customs didn't care.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

You must be lucky then! I have been getting the 20 questions every time I cross! But this upcoming visit will be the first time going through airport customs, so it may or may not be different I am still going to bring every piece of proof of ties that I can.

I NEVER had a problem! Minimal questions, never asked to show evidence. My various POE's were Toronto, Winnipeg, Newark, and Boston. Just my experience!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Airport customs is a breeze compared to the land border on a bus. I haven't taken the greyhound in a long long time, but when I did, I used to get asked a lot of questions.

Now when I cross, I just make sure I bring a letter from my employer and my paystubs showing them I have the money to sustain myself and have never been asked to show them.

The last time I went through, he literally... looked at me... looked at my passport... looked at my ticket... stamped my passport and said, "Have fun!!" and I was on my way... I was waiting for him to ask me something, anything!! And nope, no questions.... haha... it was bizare. Most of the time they just ask me, where I'm going, why I'm going and how long I'm staying and then they said have a nice trip and send me on my way.

If you're only going for a week of 2 or less, I wouldn't worry about it. I think they ask more questions when you go for longer periods of time.

Thanks guys for the advice! Most of my visits by land border have been weekend visits, my longest visit was 3 weeks. This upcoming trip will be about 1.5-2 weeks. I will most likely book my flight through Edmonton POE. They really need to have a SK preclearance! :protest:

Which part of Saskatchewan are you from? I'm from Saskatoon, SK.....

"Have faith in God, Jesus answered. I'll tell you the truth. if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself to the sea, and that does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen. it will be done for him. Therefore I'll tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (MARK 11:22-24)

The Edmonton guys have been, in our experience, extremely chill. C. never had a problem, and he visited while the K-1 was pending.

I'm from Saskatoon as well. My kids are still there. I say that because I don't know how old you are jhunjhun, and you may know them!

Have FUN flames! I haven't been back since May of last year, and my kids are telling me all the time how things have hugely changed since then! I need to get back soon as well.

Three very important things:

1. Get to the airport early. You never know how busy it might be at the airport, how bad traffic could be and you need to allow for random acts of stupidity.

2. Only answer the Customs officers' questions. They don't want to hear about your life story and you shouldn't give them anything extra to ask about.

3. Relax. Seriously. Both security and Customs can recognize someone who looks nervous. If you don't want to be hassled, try to remain calm.
