booking flight before visa in hand?

I just got informed that my interview appointment is on February 27th.

I was wondering of any of you have experiences with how long it takes for the German embassy in Frankfurt to issue a visa.

Did any of you guys book your flight ticket before you had your visa in hand?

How long should my layover be to go through customs and everything?

I'm just asking this because everything is cutting super close and I want to get there ASAP because there is still a whole bunch to plan!

I don't know about booking a flight in advance, I've thought about that too but I don't think I'll do it until we have visa in hand. As far as waiting time, take a look:

Visa issued same day? No

If not whats the waiting period? 3-5 business days at best, 2 weeks at worst. It will be mailed to you, unless you request to pick it up at the Consulate.

I wouldnt recommend booking your ticket at all.

Just be patient, you never know what delays you may experience.

It is not good to assume it is all in the bag.

Not a good idea to book a flight before the visa arrives! Unless you can afford to change it. I had my interview 10 days ago and still no passport back. Be patient.

how about round trip and layover time?

Any experiences in that area????

You can book round trip, which is generally cheaper than one way. Layover should be 1.5 hrs min. I'd give 2 hrs for London and Paris and JFK layovers
