I think that's just a fluffy way of saying that they're going through your paperwork and figuring out an interview date. They said the same thing to me shortly after I had send the Packet 3 back to them, so don't worry! They're just making sure everything's in order.

some useful information for you all for the UK embassy :)

K-1 Visa Processing - Fiancé(e) of a U.S. Citizen

On receipt of the visa applicant's file from the National Visa Center (NVC) in New Hampshire, the Immigrant Visa Unit of this Embassy will send the applicant information on the steps that he or she is required to take to process the visa application, including instructions on completing the forms in support of the visa application. The fiancé(e) visa packet of a biographic data form DS-230-I Part I, Form DS-156 (in duplicate), Form DS-156K, (in duplicate), Form DS-157 (in duplicate), Form DS-2000 and a document checklist, form IV-15K.

What do I do first?

The biographic data form DS-23O-I should be completed for each person applying for a visa, regardless of age. The form may be photocopied if insufficient copies are received for each family member. The DS-230-I should be completed and returned immediately to the Immigrant Visa Unit at 5 Upper Grosvenor Street, London, W1A 2JB, in order for the Embassy to begin the administrative processing of the application. Failure to return the DS-230-I promptly will delay the processing of the application. At the same time, please complete and return the form DS-156 and DS-156K and DS-157. Note: Please do not sign the the DS-156 or DS-156K. The forms must be signed before a consular officer on the day of the visa interview.

What is the second step?

Assemble all of the relevant documents required in support of your application and forward the document checklist, IV-15K, to the Immigrant Visa Unit. These documents must not be mailed to the Embassy. You will be required to furnish the original of all documents and one copy on the day of the formal visa interview and medical examination.

Evidence of Support: An applicant for a K visa is not required to file an affidavit of support, form I-864 at the time he or she applies for a fiancé(e) visa. However, the Immigration and Nationality Act does require the applicant to establish to the satisfaction of the consular officer at the time of the application for a visa, and also to the satisfaction of an officer of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration at the time of application for admission to the United States, that he or she is not likely at any time to become a public charge.

What happens next?

On receipt of the DS-230-I, the DS-156, DS-156K, DS-157 and IV-15K, the Immigrant Visa Unit will perform any additional processing which may be required and advise you concerning the scheduling of the medical interview and the appointment for the formal visa interview.

Note: The Immigrant Visa Unit must be in receipt of the approved petition from the National Visa Center before beginning the administrative processing of the application. While you are waiting for notification from the Immigrant Visa Unit that they are ready to begin processing your application, you may wish to begin assembling the documents you will be required to furnish on the day of your visa interview. This may expedite your application somewhat as certain documents may take a while to obtain.

enjoy :)

Don't worry...it took that long because I was sending stuff back to them gradually because I wanted an interview in March. I'm still completing university (I'm in my final year) so I wanted there to be a few buffer months after finishing my exams, just in case.

Also, thankums for the tips! I suppose I should print another DS-157 because they didn't ask for it on my IV-15. I guess they have new forms for 2009 or something...

here is some more help....if anyone needs it :)

packet 3 checklist------> http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/...ess_K_visas.pdf

Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration (DS-230 Form Pt.1)

Background ------The Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration, Form DS-230 Part I, the Nonimmigrant Visa Application Form, DS-156, and Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-157 contain questions regarding specific biographical information required for the visa.

Who completes the form------- Each family member eligible to travel to the United States with you under this visa classification is required to complete the Forms DS-230 Part 1, DS-156, and DS-157. The principal applicant only completes the Form DS-156K. Note: Forms DS-156, DS-156K and DS-157 must be completed in duplicate.

Completing the forms Please fill out the forms completely. If a question does not apply to you then you must mark it with a N/A.

Questions------- If you have any questions on completing the DS-230 Part I, please contact the Embassy on 09042-450-100 (calls cost £1.20/min), the lines are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

When complete-------- Please send all the completed forms to the Immigrant Visa Unit, 5 Upper Grosvenor Street, London W1A 1JB

Document Requirements

Please obtain the original documents or certified copies and one photocopy for yourself and each family member who will accompany you to the United States. All documents that pertain to you are required, even if they were previously submitted to the USCIS with your petition.

Birth certificates

Obtain the original, or certified copy, of the birth record of each family member (yourself, your spouse, and all unmarried children under the age of 21, even if they are not immigrating with you. If the children are deceased, so state giving year of death). The certificate must contain the:

Person's date of birth;

Names of both parents; and

Annotation by the appropriate authority indicating that it is an extract from the official records.

Adoption Certificate

The certificate must show date and place of adoption, along with the names of the adoptive parents. This certificate must be issued by a public authority and show that a public record exists of the adoption.

Passports

A Passport must be valid for travel to the United States and must have at least eight months validity beyond the issuance date of the visa. Children may be included on a parent's passport, but if over the age of 16, they must have their photographs attached to the passport.

Marriage Certificates

Married applicants must obtain an original marriage certificate, or a certified copy, bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority.

Termination of prior marriages

Applicants who have been previously married must obtain evidence of the termination of EACH prior marriage. Evidence must be in the form of original documents issued by a competent authority, or certified copies bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority. Acceptable evidence is:

final divorce decree;

death certificate; or

annulment.

Military records

Persons who have served in the military forces of any country must obtain one copy of their military record.

Note: Military records from certain countries are unavailable. For further information, please contact the Immigrant Visa Unit.

Evidence of Support

All applicants are required to establish that they will not become a public charge in the United States. Please follow this link for detailed information.

Police certificates

Police certificates are required for each visa applicant aged 16 years or older. The table below shows how many police certificates are required based on where each applicant lives and has lived previously. Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain any police certificates covering their residence in the U.S.

The police certificate must cover the entire period of the applicant's residence in that area, and state what the appropriate police authorities records show concerning each applicant, including all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s) and the disposition of each case of which there is a record.

Note: Police certificates from certain countries are unavailable or are obtained directly by this office. Many countries require fingerprints to process police certificates for immigration purposes (e.g, Australia, Canada, Nigeria). Police certificates completed without the required fingerprints are not valid.Police Certificate for the United Kingdom

A visa applicant who has resided in the United Kingdom for 6 months or more since the age of 16, is required to obtain a police certificate from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). Further information is available from their website at http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp . This police certificate will serve to advise the U.S. Embassy, London whether or not any criminal conviction is held against him/her.

The police certificate will be sent to the applicant's address provided at the time of application. Please note that the Immigrant Visa Unit considers the police certificate valid for 12 months from the date of issuance, not six months as stated on the certificate

Court Records for the United Kingdom

Court Records, usually called a "Memorandum of Conviction" (MOC) in Great Britain and "Certificates of Conviction" in Northern Ireland, must be obtained from the clerk of the court(s) in which you were tried.

If you are not able to obtain the MOC or "Certificate of Conviction" from the court in which you were tried, you can obtain a police certificate from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). Further information is available from their website at http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp. This police certificate will serve to advise the U.S. Embassy, London whether or not any criminal conviction is held against him/her. The police certificate will be sent to the applicant's address provided at the time of application

Color Photographs

Three color photographs which meet Department of State specifications.

Custody Decree

If you are applying for a visa for your children by a previous marriage and if a court has previously restricted your custody of these children, you should present proof that you have been awarded custody by the court for the children and that they may be taken out of the United Kingdom

Translations

All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that state that the translation is accurate, and sworn to before a Notary Public.

What Happens Next?

Overview

This table below provides you with an overview of the steps that take place once you have obtained all your documents and have completed the necessary forms.

Step Action

1 ---Mail the DS-230 Form Part I, Form DS-156, and Form DS-157 for each person and the Form DS-156-K (completed by the principal applicant only) to the Immigrant Visa Unit, 5 Upper Grosvenor Street, London W1A 2JB. Note:Note: Forms DS-156, DS-156k and DS-157 must be completed in duplicate.

2 ----Assemble all of the documents required in support of your application and mail the IV-15K Form and check list (download the PDF here) to the Immigrant Visa Unit.

3 ----The Embassy will complete all necessary administrative processing of your immigrant visa application. You may be requested to provide additional information if you have incomplete or missing documents.

4 ----Approximately one month before your scheduled interview appointment with a consular officer, you will receive an appointment letter containing the date and time of your visa interview.

Bring your documents

Do not send any documents to the Embassy. You will need to bring all your original documents, or certified copies, plus one photocopy to the immigrant visa interview.

When to call or write

The Embassy cannot guarantee how long it may be before you are scheduled for an appointment for a visa interview. Please notify the Embassy if the circumstances of your application have changed.

No assurance can be given in advance that a visa will be issued to you. Only after all your documents have been checked, your medical examination completed and you have been interviewed by a consular officer, can a decision be made regarding your eligibility to receive a visa. Therefore, you should not resign from your employment, sell your property, make final wedding or travel plans until you receive a visa. A fiance(e) (K-1) visa is valid for travel for a period of six months from the date of issuance. A K-3 visa is valid for travel for two years from the date on which it is issued. In the case of a K-4 visa issued to a child, the visa is valid for two-years or until the date of the child's 21st birthday, which ever comes sooner.

sorry its a lot to read!

Hello to all fellow UK filers! December filer here, we are about 2 months into our visa journey and at the current rate of approvals coming out of Vermont we are expecting our NOA2 at the end of April/beginning of May.

However even though we are two months off that deadline, myself (Jim) is interested in pressing ahead in terms of collecting the information required for Packet 3 and the interview. There are just a few questions I need clearing up on:

1) Today I received the vaccination records from my GP, now according to the vaccination requirements I apparently need MMR and TdaP. Is that still the case with my record below....not entirely sure about the "life" of these immunisations.

1981 - Three sets of DTP and Polio

1982 - Measles

1986 - DT booster and Polio

1994 - MR (Measles/Rubella)

1995 - Tuberculosis (BCG)

1996 - DT Booster and Polio

1999 - Meningitis A & C

2) Is it worth applying for my Police Certificate now and getting it out of the way or should I wait for the NOA2?

3) When we get the NOA2 (fingers crossed), should we wait for Packet 3 from the Embassy to arrive or should I download the forms off the website and sent it off early, before they sent out a Packet 3?

4) My fiancée is due to come over from the States next month for a visit :) would now be a good time for her to collect all the evidence for the affidavit of support and bring it across with her? Or would the letter from employer/pay stubs/tax returns etc etc be too far out of date come the interview?

Thanks everyone! B)

Heya there =D. Got a few responses for you! Guys, please correct me if I'm wrong on any of these points, but I'm pretty sure.

1) Today I received the vaccination records from my GP, now according to the vaccination requirements I apparently need MMR and TdaP. Is that still the case with my record below....not entirely sure about the "life" of these immunisations.

1981 - Three sets of DTP and Polio

1982 - Measles

1986 - DT booster and Polio

1994 - MR (Measles/Rubella)

1995 - Tuberculosis (BCG)

1996 - DT Booster and Polio

1999 - Meningitis A & C

It's worth talking to a nurse about it...I actually showed a nurse my visa documents and she told me what I needed, and whether I needed boosters.

2) Is it worth applying for my Police Certificate now and getting it out of the way or should I wait for the NOA2?

I waited until I actually got my Packet 3 before applying. It only takes about ten working days for them to send the certificate to you. You can do it earlier, but it might be better to do it after your NOA2 just to be secure.

3) When we get the NOA2 (fingers crossed), should we wait for Packet 3 from the Embassy to arrive or should I download the forms off the website and sent it off early, before they sent out a Packet 3?

If you try to send forms to them before your approval, they'll probably send them right back at you. Only when you're approved will they be happy to take your forms because you need the IV-15 checklist that they send you. It's a good idea to keep them all printed and ready, though! =D

4) My fiancée is due to come over from the States next month for a visit :) would now be a good time for her to collect all the evidence for the affidavit of support and bring it across with her? Or would the letter from employer/pay stubs/tax returns etc etc be too far out of date come the interview?

Well, if they're 2009 tax returns, you should be okay...you might want to wait until closer to the interview for the employer pay documents just in case there are changes. The more recent, the better!

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Magpie.

Magpie.

only thing i can say different is that as soon as i knew London had received our file i sent in pkt3, i think i waited 3-4days to allow it to start filtering into their system.

I have the IV-15 checklist as a word document, PM me your email addy if you want it emailing over.

Thanks for the information, just one more query really, I live in North Wales and to be honest I don't really fancy making two trips down to London for the Medical and Interview? Can you book to have these on the same day, if so does the order matter?

The thing is, there needs to be time for your blood test results and such to process. Your results are required in order to get visa approval...if you have your medical on the same day, you'll likely be approved but pending for the medical results. This is why people generally have their medical a couple of weeks in advance, or even a week. I'm having mine about a month in advance :P.

@_@ I really feel for you, though...it must be a pain coming down all this way. I'm glad I'm lucky enough to be about forty minutes from London by train.

JimandChristy (and anyone else who needs it):

Just an FYI, the IV-15 checklist is now available as a pdf document on the embassy website (Thank God!)

Here is the link: http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/...ess_K_visas.pdf

Or if you are having a hard time opening this direct link, go to: http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/iv/iv_15.html and click on "IV 15 & Checklist" in the vertical text box on the right side of the screen where it says -MORE-.

UK Police Certificates are valid for 12 months from issue date, they don't need to be current to the interview date. Just make sure it is valid when it comes time for the interview. We got my fiance's in December.

Jim and Christy, you can get the police certificates from here. I got mine within ten days of sending off the application, and there's options to pay a little extra to get additional certificates (I have two) or to get it back to you sooner. It might be better to wait until you have the Packet 3, though, before sending off an application becauset hey come back so quickly.
