Riggs has had the P3 for almost 20 days now. He is still waiting on some information he needs from the council to complete the forms, hasn't even sent off the correct request for his Police Certificate. I guess he sent off the request that cost £10, not the right one that cost £30. He doesn't have a working printer, and this is seriously driving me insane. Every time I talk to him and hear that no progress has been made I feel so frustrated, I'm never in a good mood when we talk anymore... Anyone have any advice for me? I feel like I'm at the breaking point, and my dream of picking him up at the airport is floating farther and farther away from me.

Take care of yourself. :) There are some excellent posts where people talk about what they do to pass the time away from their fiance's. Go get a massage or a mani/pedi. Little stuff but it helps. This whole process actually probably prepares couples to a certain degree for when they will be together. We all have our little idiosyncracies and maybe your fiance is one of those people who either procrastinates or is focused on work. But probably totally unaware that he is even being this way. That may be his norm and this is the first time you have seen it. It is good to be aware of this kind of stuff b/c it won't go away. But pls don't think it has anything to do with you or his desire to move to the states and be with you. I know I get frustrated and sad sometimes before we talk but then I ask myself why do I feel this way and it is not b/c of him, it is because being away from someone you love is difficult. So I make sure to be in a positive frame of mind or in the past I have shared with him how I was feeling and it was just good to get it off my chest. We all have a wonderful opportunity to see how each of us works at things and how we communicate. I always worry that when I write it sounds like I am wearing rose colored glasses but it is the only thing that keeps me sane. :)

Nik had packet 3 for nearly as long as well. I'm not sure how I got through my impatience either (I can't remember! Probably blocked it from my memory). In his defense, we did get NOA2 waaaaay earlier than we thought we would, and he had been holding off on the police certificate so that it would be valid just in case of hang ups. I remember every day I would ask him if "something" came in the mail. At least then it was the police cert we were waiting for...not just him. :D For certain I felt the same way as you, that all our conversations about the visa were reluctant on his part and almost accusatory on mine. I tried reeeeeally hard not to talk about the visa at all, and was mostly successful, though I also felt like I had nothing else to talk about.

All I can really tell you is that in a few months you'll look back and these few weeks won't seem so long. Be there if he has questions, but maybe he'll turn out like Nik - a secret VJ lurker and one day tell you he's finished and popped it in the mail!

Also, have you considered doing the forms for him? Maybe this just isn't his strength, and something you'll have to make up for in the relationship? Get the forms yourself, and then have an "interview" one weekend. When you get them all filled out, you print them out, and mail them to him to sign and send off.

Hang in there Chaz. He'll get over here soon!

being apart for this amount of time with the added stress of the whole visa process is a huge test for a relationship. i think it is hard, especially towards the end of the process, to still feel as excited and connected as you felt before. for some of us weve been apart for 6+ months and being so far apart, sometimes it can feel like the energy between you isnt the same anymore. but you know when this whole thing is over and youre together, everything is going to be awesome and this torture will only serve to sweetin where youre at.

Called DoS today and it seems that London finally acknowledged that they received packet 3 on September 3rd (glad it didn't get lost in the post!) but no interview has yet been scheduled. I've told Sarah to call the rip off line tomorrow to see if she can get an update as that will be 28 days since they received it.

thats good to hear. now you know they havent lost your forms heh. im on hold with dos right now. we sent ours on aug26 next day shipping so hopefully well be in the system as at least received packet3 soon.

they just told me that our forms were processed into london's system today

i guess it does take a month for their system to update since the embassy actually received our forms on the 27th of august.

Hmmmm..........so a month for them to do things...maybe then you get your packet 4 shortly after....keep us posted!

will do. im thinking our interview date will be set very soon.

we put on the checklist that we would schedule our medical exam once we found out our interview date. ellie, living in glasgow, isnt so close to london that its nae bother to go over their twice. i see some people have had their interview dates being 2 weeks after they find out about it. i hope if this happens, we have enough time to set the medical exam for the day before or after the interview. her father lives just outside of london so its not big deal if she has to stay an extra night or two but yea, ill sure be glad once all this is over, hehe.

Hi,

A little advice needed, if anyone could help.

We are thinking of sending the police certificate form in next week on the 2 day priority processing, and also sending back the packet 3 next week, before we get the certificate back. From everything I have heard the embassy is taking around a month to get back with an interview date, so I really cannot see this way of doing things being a problem, as I have had not criminal records etc.

Would anyone advise against doing this, or have any information as to why not?

Thanks for all advice.

i dont see why you would pay for the 2day processing on the police certificate. once you mail the packet 3 forms to them, youre looking at probably at least 6 weeks until your actual interview date. we ordered the police certificate for the cheaper, regular processing and received it in 10 days. weve had the police certificate for weeks now and we still havent even had our interview date set yet. now, theres no problem with paying for priority processing, i just think its unnecessary at this point.

if i were you, id apply for the police certificate right now and send packet 3 next week or whenever you are ready.

it really is a shame how these workers at dos and the embassy can be so useless, misleading or just down right wrong. but then i guess thats the government for ya. i could see making this process a bit more difficult just to weed out the couples who aren't so serious or doing this for the wrong reasons but the incompetency along with having to be apart from your loved one for so long (and possible children) is just ridiculous.

i could vent for days on the incompetency of office employees, especially the ones getting our tax and visa fee money.

What do you do if your police certificate has an error and you've told the embassy you're ready, and you can't get it corrected in time for your interview? Then what will you do?

Avoid the heart burn, and be actually ready for your interview at the time you send in your checklist claiming to be so. By that I mean, you should have everything on the checklist physically in your hands at the time. Not "in the mail" not "requested" Received, and checked for accuracy.

It's wise, for any consulate that moves faster than Montreal, Canada. Seriously, is there any slower consulate? Some of us who sent back P3 in June or July haven't gotten interviews yet. No interview scheduled. Montreal is saying 4-6 months wait until interview. It's taking maybe a little less than that. I really want my interview already! I'd love an early December interview, at this point.

If your consulate is quicker than that, though, it's risky to push the checklist out before having every single thing.
