People between NOA2 and Interview ~2009~

Vik had his interview last night... His medical and everything was good. They took his fingerprints and collected his passport. The officer said they had to do some computer checks, but that was all... Does this mean he was approved? Please lemme know... kinda freaking out. Also, how long would it take for him to have his visa in hand if he has been approved? (Interview was August 25 at 8:30am)

Everything I've been reading suggests that's an approval if they still have his passport. Congratulations!

I wouldn't think they would take his passport if he wasn't approved. You or he could always call DOS or the Embassy to find out for sure.

I called DOS and they said that no decision has been made and that maybe they could advise me tomorrow. I feel like ######- and am very worried. I don't have it in me to wait anymore...

Also, another question about the IV-15 checklist: Does it need to be mailed with the forms (DS230, etc.)? I know that the supporting documents are not to be mailed but it was unclear if the checklist itself needed to be included.

How did you get an interview date without packet 4? I thought packet 4 was the interview letter (which you need to bring to the embassy on interview day).

Packet 3 is when you get the forms from online and such. Then they tell you to mail in the checklist later. We did it all at once. The packet 4 was the interview letter (which I never saw bc my fiance never scanned/emailed to me) and that was all we did.

Excellent, thanks. Based on this info, Sarah just posted packet 3 today and called Knightsbridge and scheduled her medical for 9/7/09. It's nice to feel progress. Also, how long did it take from posting packet 3 to receiving the interview letter? Your timeline has an interview date but not a packet 4 date.

Vik got a text so he called the courier service that said that they are going to deliver something to him tomorrow... his passport with visa- maybe?!? The DOS and the London Embassy had no information to share... except that the embassy said that his file was being forwarded the NVC .... any ideas? Could it be that he is getting his visa so soon?

Sounds like you're getting the passport back with the visa in tow. No idea why they mentioned the NVC, but I can almost guarantee that it's the visa.

Basically, what do we need to send with packet 3 and what do we keep to take to the interview? Especially in terms of I-134 and supporting documents (w2, tax transcripts, and pay stubs).

I know we only send copies of original documents. And also I've been told that because my dad is co-sponsoring, he needs to provide proof of citizenship. I've never heard of this before.

I need all the help I can get right now, so thanks in advance!

Send in forms, carry in documents. The I134 is the exception (it's a form you carry in).

I think you should be able to get 2008 tax transcripts by now, so there is no need for W2s. If you can't get the transcript, the W2, plus ALL forms for the tax return are required (copies from records NOT notorized is fine). W2s by themselves are NOT sufficient, but tax transcripts alone are.

Father's proof of citizenship (or residency - for anyone wondering) is needed - photocopy of birth cert or US passport same criteria as you submitted to prove your citizenship.

If you're feeling confused about what to send in for packet 3, I would encourage you to re-read the instructions on the embassy website. No one on VJ has better info than that, and it's all right there in one place.

Checklist tips: Put dates for travel and wedding in - although you aren't supposed to buy tickets, give your best guess.

The reason I included my dad's w-2 was because he filed jointly with my mom (I figured I would have to have something proving what his income alone is). I do have tax transcripts for myself and my dad for 3 years.

The instructions for packet 3 just seemed a bit vague to me. I didn't know if they wanted copies of everything that I have to send, too.

You may have a point about your dad's W2s. I'll admit I'm not a cosponsor know-it-all.

The police cert is a document. hand carry.

Submit copies of forms as required (several required in duplicate) if there are signatures, original signatures on the copies. You can bring additional copies to the interview with you, but it is unlikely they will be needed. However, if somehow they lost one, then you'd have it waiting! Just depends on how extra overprepared you want to be. I don't think Nik bothered. When you go to the interview, bring the original, plus a copy (so you can show the original, and they can keep the copy for the file) Plain photocopies of your dad's citizenship proof and W2s is fine. All of your fiance's documents should have originals on hand, however.
