OK, just now getting the Evidence of Support forms all sorted out and my fiancee says to me she has her recent tax return. However I'm a little bemused by the fact that the 1040 according to her is 10 pages long! (With the W-2 only being a single page.) Does that mean she will have to photocopy all ten pages or is there like a summary (single) page of the tax return itself that she should be sending me. If so can someone provide a link to a copy of this form on the net. Thanks!

Tax returns:

If you use something like Turbo Tax to complete your return, it will generate tons of notes and worksheets. I never print all that. My return this year would have been 77 pages if I let Turbo Tax print it all. What you show the Embassy is only what you actually mail in to the IRS, if your mailing a paper return. The real forms would look like this:

Form 1040 is two pages http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf?portlet=3

That's the basic return, but depending on your income or how you choose to file, you could also have:

Schedule A if you itemize deductions

Schedule B if you earn interest on savings or own stocks

Both on this http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040sab.pdf

Schedule D if you sell stocks or have other investment gains http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040sd.pdf

Schedule C if self employed http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040sc.pdf

There's some other things like Earned Income Credit, but I've never used those. Anyway, the IRS forms will have that similar looking numbering in the top corners, left and right...OMB number, Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service. Most have an "attachment sequence" number on the right so you know what order to put the extra sheets in, following the 1040. If it doesn't look like that or says Turbo Tax or H&R Block, it's just extra junk that isn't a tax return.

A W2 is a statement from the employer, of wages earned in the whole year. It is normally small like a half page or quarter page. You staple that to the front page of the form 1040 if mailing in taxes.

If the person who sent you the return still has a copy at home, then you don't need to make another. Just turn in the one. Example: I can print off my returns from Turbo tax all day long, so no need for my fiance to copy and take two sets to the embassy. So ask him/her if that's the only copy of the tax return in the whole world. If not, then it won't matter if you hand it over because there's another copy in the US. Does that make sense? Only make copies of things that are original or not easily replaced if you gave it away.

I am ok just to take those along with I134, employer letter and pay stubs, or do you think I will need other things too (W2s, 1099s, 1040s etc.)?

I had the same situation. I put my new address on the forms & sent back packet 3. The Embassy sent my packet 4 to my OLD address! Good job I knew someone who lived there who told me I had mail from the embassy!

I then phoned them & asked for the special email code so that I could contact them. They got back to me within 2 days. :star:

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldnt find a UK specific answer by using the search function on VJ. On the DS-156 there is a question that asks the place of issuance of the passport and the province.

Hmmm, well i applied through the post office and it was sent through my door. So, is it my home town and county? Just wondering what everyone else wrote.

Thanks :)

A tax return transcript is a summary from the IRS of your (tax) return. It is printed single spaced, front and back in something that almost looks like it cranked off of an old dot matrix printer. It shows all the important things that those pages of 1040, Schedule B, D, EIC, etc show, but without all the extra directions and math to get to the bottom line. They are stand-alone proof because they came from the IRS who created that from seeing the forms, schedules, W2, etc. Nothing else needs to be included of you have a tax transcript.

An account transcript is more about "accounting" between you and the IRS...what got paid in out of your wages, what you paid when you filed, what you owe, maybe you didn't pay all you owe so they are showing you still owe them a balance of money, maybe they sent you a refund. It's more like a statement of settling up with them. It is not a tax return and is of no use to the embassy or USCIS.

77 pages. did you have the font size set at 64 by accident? : p

Nope, it's the darn Turbo tax that generates pages of unnessary garbage. A page with all your name, address. Endless worksheets. A page rewriting the info you entered from your W2. Pages for each bank that paid you interest (that you have to claim as income.) You don't need Turbo Tax to print that because you have the paper from your employer and your bank and you already know your name and address. hahahaha It's a little ridiculous, but if you don't understand taxes, one might think that's part of the return. I learned not to choose "print a complete copy including worksheets" (or what ever the choice is) because your gonna need a whole ream of paper.

i have decided that i have figured out what you do for a living, ms. nich. i think you write ALL of the wikipedia articles. : D smart girl.

I only know what I have to study up on to save money by not paying somebody...kind of a do-it-yourself person. I know taxes and immigration. I went to court and probated my father's will in the state of Texas and completely settled his estate without a lawyer. BUT I don't know anything about politics, history, literature, physics, or calculus... so not so smart at all, but thank you. Occupation--former elementary and special education teacher. Can't you tell? I want to help you all learn, and I have patience for slow learners. :P

These forms are giving me a blurry headache, and I could just strangle David at the moment. I had them all filled out when I realised that he had given me the wrong address of our new apartment.....grrrrrr

Hi everyone!

My fiancee just got Packet 3 in the UK, and we have a couple questions:

- Does he actually have to have my I-134 and supporting documents in his possession before he sends Packet 3 back?

- The example form on VJ for the K1 shows part 1 and part 2 of DS-230 filled in. Do we need to do DS-230 part 1 and part 2?

Thanks for the help and good luck to everybody! :luv:

Yep I put similar - UKPA > GBR > UKPA .

No, as long as you think you will have them in time for the interview. I checked the boxes on the checklist even though I wouldn't have I134 for a few weeks.

You only need DS-230-1 for K1 visa.
