Here's the latest from the Center for Disease Control which describes in detail what is required for AOS because they make up the list for USCIS to go by. There's a chart on page 2. If you read footnote #5 on page 3, you can read all about the recommendations for MMR and each of it's components. 2009 CDC Immunization Guide Looks like one MMR is sufficient in most cases.

And you don't have to have any jabs to get the visa. It's filing for AOS that you need to have all complete. But getting it all done before the visa, if possible, could simplify your AOS process.

Well, my daughter and I have just got back from our medicals and I have to say, as a medical professional, that I have never experienced such rubbish treatment, people can knock the NHS as much as they like, but in all the hospitals I have worked at the standard is far superior, and all this set me back £270! Perhaps if the staff at Bentinck Mansions didn't have a guaranteed income from visa medicals they would actually offer a standard of care that meets the minimum recommended by the governement. Blatent breaches of the Data Protection act, lack of care regarding female dignity, abrupt receptionist, and unsanitary equipment in the medical room itself, :( all in all an unsatisfactory experience.

@_@ Don't get me started on the receptionist...or that "gender check". I had no idea that was coming and didn't request a female doctor, but I was lucky enough to get one. As reassuring as the lady was being, it was hardly a comfortable experience. As for the equipment, I guess I wasn't paying attention because you go in there assuming it's all top-notch, considering the price you pay. It's good to hear an assessment from someone who's been working in the field and can look over it with a more professional eye.

You know, it is laughable that they want to check your bits, but sadly, it is a sign of the times with all the trans-gender ops these days, so we all have to be checked just to make sure we're not duping some poor, unsuspecting US citizen :D So that part I understand, it was having to sit for 20 minutes in a gown half naked underneath that barely stayed together in a waiting room full of men that made me uncomfortable. I should have been allowed to put my clothes back on after the x-ray, it wouldn't have taken a minute to whip my bra off in the Dr's room, but the radiographer told me I should not get dressed. My advice to women is take a coat and put that on over the top of the gown, I only had my cardie with me that didn't do up!!

The unsanitary equipment that I noticed was on the sharps trolley, the trolley and bowl she used had blood splashes, and she didn't wear gloves or wash her hands :o Makes you wonder, they're testing to see what diseases YOU have but god only knows what filth they may be spreading!

Weird...they let me keep my clothes on! I didn't even have to put a hospital gown on. I went, had my X-Ray, was told to put my clothes back on by the radiographer (this dude with glasses), and was fully clothed when I was in the waiting room. It's awful that you were made to do that, and I can't imagine why. It just sounds utterly pointless, and I was only told to drop my pants slightly for the "check".

As for the equipment...gross! I can't believe that it was in such an awful state. You'd think that with the fee you're paying, it's top-notch...ugh. You oughta write a letter of complaint, and I'm sure it won't be the first they receive, nor the last if they don't act.

wouldn't one's gender identity be sufficently covered in your birth certificate? I have never understood this, if you're post-op transexual they'll never know the difference anyway!

:P Well, someone could change their parts out later...y'know, they might hit 18 and decide they want to see what it's like to be another gender for a while.

I really don't think its in my interests to complain about something else. I sent a very matter of fact email to the embassy a couple of weeks ago and have since worried about whether that may have any influence over my visa application. All email and correspondance gets added to your file apparently. I know that I ought to complain but it did strike me that Bentinck Mansions and all who work in it feel thet are a law unto themselves, again, quite possibly because they know very well we have no choice but to go there and their income is therefore guaranteed.

On a positive note, although the Dr did not wash her hands or wear gloves, the blood test did not hurt at all, not even a scratch or sting! And also, my daughter had to flash her bits too, much to her amusement.....the Dr said 'your a girl!' to her which she thought was hilarious (she was well aware of the fact after all!) and thought the Dr's comment made it sound like she'd just had a baby!

It may not be just transexuals but people trying to fraudulently pass themselves off as someone they are not. I haven't seen any myself, but I can't imagine remodelled genitalia looks anything like the real thing!

i understand your concerns.

personally, i believe that if you dont stand up and voice your opinion in a situation like this, the situation may never change. and while it may not benefit you, it might benefit the larger (visa) community in the future. they might even name the waiting room after you! The Kirsten UK Waiting Room. i do understand though. the stakes are higher in this process where we all sort of walk on eggshells.

why just today i called my city department of public works and reported a pothole in the road that i have been negotiating on my bike for the past month or so. if i never reported it, it might never get dealt with. and i pay taxes to the city so its my right. : )

also, i recently contacted my vermont state legislators and the governor concerning the recently approved gay marriage bill. (contacted them BEFORE the votes.) how should i expect them to know my opinion and be able to make a decision about how to best represent their constituency if there is no communication? i got responses from all of the legislators (but not the governor) and i do feel that my voice was heard on this issue. and vermont became the fifth state to allow gay marriage. (woohoo!)

</ramble>

and kirsten? im not at all coming down on you. im just irritated that the oversight for knightbridge probably hasnt checked in lately with that office. they charge an awful lot of money to give such shitty service.

glad you got the medical done. one more thing out of the way. : )

...I just pictured a petition signed by x number of anonymous VJers...that gave me the giggles. This is what happens when you wake up from bizarre dreams at almost 3 in the morning.

You're right, though; openly complaining may lead to them wrinkling their noses like piggies and not liking it. Then...whoops! Papers shuffle to the bottom of that ominous pile over there. Grooink. Maybe you can foward a letter once you're in the US :P. I should stop writing stuff and try and go back to sleep before I say anything silly -- ahh, too late!

So excited!! Got a letter tonight saying that the NVC has forwarded our petition to the Embassy. Woo hoo! I miss my man so freakin' much; meanwhile I'm reading the medical experiences on this thread and thinking about what my poor Honey's in for. Much respect for all of you doing this for us USCs!
