People seriously underutilise the wiki. Currently, there is a page, Interviews at the London Embassy, for this but it is lacking in a lot of info. This would be an excellent place to put this sort of interview information, because it is relatively short (with no diversions into conversations on favourite foods and how crappy someone is feeling that day) and is a dynamic document that can be kept up-to-date with any relevant changes to protocol. If someone (or more than one someone) feels up to the challenge, this page should be developed for this purpose.

Just my 2c/2p.

yes! wiki is a good idea.

ive looked there but was a little discouraged because i didnt feel it was updated and i didnt like the organization of it.

but i totally agree that would be a good place to send people if the information was detailed and updated.

An excellent suggestion, maven.

Of course, no one ever reads wiki. But still, it would satisfy the request for this Top Tips document. :star:

I said I would help with that a long time ago once we got settled. I suppose we're settled and done with forms for awhile so I could help, however I've never done the Wiki before. Do I need a special log in or permission to add to the files?

I know Poiteen did one for DCF London and she found it pretty straightforward. If you're volunteering to expand the Wiki, Nich, that would be great! Let me look into it and get back to you.

Edited to add:

I also found this: UK FAQ

Signing up to edit and create Wiki pages is really straightforward. Here's the page to do it: Wiki sign up I signed up and did some minor editing of typos on the London Interview page just to test it out. It worked!

I understand what you're saying but it's impossible to stop people from posting cr@p. Just go through this thread and see how many posts are off topic, including these about a pinned thread.:)

Talk about a tempest in a teapot. I relay one specific example of my experience and now it's posting #######? Well, I take offense to your comment.

I have no less than 8 VJ threads and 20 outside links bookmarked specifically dealing with K1 visas and UK specifics - including the Wiki. I'm very well read and do my research accordingly including all applicable searches. The example I gave about travel dates is one that normally wouldn't have to be searched, because if a couple has no firm travel itineraries booked (at the recommendation of many VJ members and the embassy itself) - what would necessitate that search? It's the experiences of others that many rely on as they continue their individual journeys - those experiences should not be squelched.

There is no one clear and concise source in which to find all the answers (wiki included). While all of these sources provide invaluable information, documenting each couples personal experiences is a task just far too great. That is the purpose of the individual threads. Reading pages and pages of any thread can be daunting, so if things get repeated from time to time - so be it. It keeps things relevant since everyone is at various stages. Pulling out standard answer "this has been covered before" is neither helpful nor productive.

Well, my fiance scheduled his medical after painstaking efforts...dealing with a GP that has been giving him the runaround routine for just one vaccine since the past 2 weeks, and dealing with the receptionist at the medical who is just downright rude and doesn't bother to listen...his medical is next Friday.

The pdf file for the medical available on the embassy's website clearly says passport is not required, as long as one brings some ID, my fiance had a hard time explaining this to the receptionist, that he does not have his passport. First the receptionist did not believe him when he said he received his packet 3 back in Feb, then she acted like he knew nothing of the passport requirements...anyway, he finally booked the appointment for next Friday, nothing was available earlier. We had delayed the medical before because we were repeatedly told that the passport was required. But it is NOT mandatory, there are ways around it, unlike the K-1 interview at the embassy, where the simple rule is: no passport, no interview.

This whole process has been a nightmare for both of us so far. Everyday we wait for the passport to come back (we have undertaken all efforts to speed it up now at this point), and now we wait until we decide on whether to reschedule the interview, and my fiance is tensed because of the medical, and then there will be Administrative Processing...

And then of course the wait for EAD and all of that for AOS

If we knew of all of this before hand, we would have definitely gone the CR-1/IR-1 route.

But still, nothing can hold us back...WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS SOON!!!

Visa Journey completed, but we are still here to provide support! :)

I wasn't referring to you. You need to be a little less paranoid and sensitive.

Well, I take offense to your comment.

I don't care.

I think the point of Muffin's posts was that many, many experiences HAVE been covered before and people don't avail themselves of the google search, either because they don't know how to do it or (sometimes) are too lazy. I don't believe her intention was to call what you said "#######" -- I think she was referring to the amount of non-immigration related stuff gets mixed in with the salient points. That's why a wiki is a very useful tool, as long as it is kept up to date, which has not been the case so far.

The travel dates issue has been hotly debated in this forum ad naseum. If you search the UK forum specifically using the wordsd, "travel dates" it will return a list of threads that contain those words. You can then use the search function located in the lower lefthand corner of each thread to searc the words, "travel dates" and get all the posts in that thread which contain your searched words. I found the info pretty easily just now when I did that.

In fact, here is a little gem from yours truly from just over a year ago:

Travel Dates

It took me less that a minute to find this using the search engine.

And here's a Whole Thread! dedicated to the same issue.

It's not rocket science.
