I keep hearing people say that round trips are a lot cheaper.

I've been keeping my eye on flights from Dublin (or Belfast) to Tulsa (or Dallas, or Memphis) for the past few months, and not once have I seen a round trip cheaper than a one-way.

What gives?

i guess it depends where you are traveling....but more so what airline you are taking.

:ot:

anyone know if anyone from here has started a AOS thread for us UK folks??

I had a question about this (if anyone knows yet)............

i read "Your spouse may also be required to have a medical sometime during the AOS process. The medical must be done by a CIS accredited doctor. Your CIS office should give you a list of CIS accredited doctors in your area, if not check with your local office to get one. The medical exam can cost anywhere from $100-200 dollars, many physicians will not take a check, but only accept cash. Be prepared of the cost before your spouse gets this done. It would be wise to collect their vaccination information before going to the appointment as the doctor will need to have record of them. At the appointment your spouse will be tested for TB, AIDS and Syphilis. If they do the skin test for TB, they will be required to return to the CIS doctors office to have the site checked before they finish the exam paperwork. Note: Some CIS Offices allow you to schedule your appointment when you want, as long as it is done before the AOS appointment, check with your CIS office to see how they handle CIS medical exams before filing your AOS paperwork. "

soooo besides the $1,010 we are filing...we also have to pay for MORE effin doctors stuff??? please someone tell me that this is a late april fools joke?? hasnt my fiance done enough silly doctor stuff?? and seriously.....TB, aids, and syphilis?!? shouldnt people get tested BEFORE they travel abroad? especially with TB....

just my $.02

Damian P started an AOS thread. It wasnt allowed in the UK forum & was into the AOS forum.

sooooo your saying that he should have had a copy of all his shots copied from a nurse back in the UK for us??

He should have been given a DS-3025 form when he did his medical in London with all his vaccinations on it. He needs to get this transcribed onto another form, the name of which escapes me at present.

Do bear in mind that when you read about people going through AOS, they're often adjusting from something other than a K-1.

okay my dear soccer/football fans.....so my fiance comes from manchester....we are man u fans. i signed up for cable...they are coming tomorrow. we were going to get setanta sports channel extra and we would already have espn and espn2......he looked on setanta and they are only showing one game for man u.

anyone know what channels here in the US show a lot of man u games?? of course setanta would be perfect for all the international soccer games....but to him, he rather save money and try and just get the channel that mainly has man u on and not all the other teams.

Aww, I missed the boat on all the travel talk. Darn you UKers and your 8 hours ahead of me!

I usually use sidestep.com. It checks all the airlines and all the expedia etc type sites - Even looks for mix and match airline deals! I noticed that they have also added a feature that shows your fares on a calendar, so it's easy to say "Ohhh, if I fly the week after that, it's even better!" I want to try out that other software that was suggested, it sounds fantastic.

When I said one step up I meant that some airlines have "economy plus" sorts of fare classes. Usually there are different fare classes aside from coach/business/first - they deal with not only where you sit but things like how much it costs or even IF you can change your flight details etc. Some airlines only have "on sale" and "refundable" but others have something in the middle.

nik+heather (or anyone),

do you have any other good tips for finding cheap flights? i get overwhelmed quickly and im sure i miss out on some good deals.

i guess one of our issues is that jamie will be ultimately flying into BTV, aka burlington international airport in grand old burlington, vermont (it is grand. im not being sarcastic!) normally, what we do is fly into JFK and then connect on another airline. (i have a friend who works for jetblue so we get lots of buddy passes. about $20 for a one way flight to btv from jfk.) but im not sure that jamie will want to deal with the extra hassle of changing terminals and flying standby (thats the catch with the buddy passes) on top of having to pass through immigration. i bet if there is a really cheap flight from manchester to kennedy he might be convinced! i just want it to be as easy as possible for him, poor little guy.

we usually trawl through expedia first and see what is cheap. and then go to the airline sites directly.

and nik+heather, are you saying that looking at say 'business class' might be a good idea? with possibly more relaxed change conditions?

hmm. i look into it.

-lisabette.

You could try Kayak.com. The site searches to find the lowest fare and also shows a calendar with the lowest fares for the month. I think you are right... the airlines themselves end up being cheapest. Also, we've been trying to stick with one particular airline to build up frequent flier miles. Some day (far, far away from today) we just may get a free ticket somewhere. Good luck!

I did the math, and really the only time it makes sense to choose your preferred airline over another for international flights is when the difference is something like $50 (I don't remember exactly). Otherwise, may as well stay with the cheapest and keep buying each time...

Do they test for alcohol in the blood as standard at the medical? I'm paranoid now because I went out on the Saturday night before my medical (which was on the Monday at 1.30pm) & I'm panicking in case there was alcohol im my blood!!

Do they test for alcohol or is that only when someone has a DUI?

Jumping back a few post ('cause I just woke up) This is the UK AOS thread so you might want to bookmark it. And thank you H&V for complimenting my medical post. Very kind of you. Adding to that post I can say Nick did not do a TB skin test or have his immunizations transcribed by a Civil Surgeon in the US. He got his green card a few days ago (Apr 3). He had completed every shot required in the UK and sent in only the Knightsbridge form DS-3025 and it worked. Talyss is trying the same thing before shelling out any more money to have somebody copy a complete record onto a different form. I started a spreadsheet in the UK AOS thread and have included a column for who did and did not do the I-693. Don't have complete info on everybody in it so far. UK AOS Timeline spreadsheet But remember you will need the I-693 if you left any shots to be taken after you get to the US.

Anyway, come on over to Daymo's AOS thread if you have any more questions about this subject.

Monkey Juice--I don't think they test for blood alcohol. Perhaps if you showed up acting high or drunk they might do some extra testing, but I don't think they check routinely. They are checking blood for HIV and veneral disease is what I think.

No, they only test for alcohol when the person has a history of alcohol abuse. This test costs extra, so if you only paid £180, you're fine.

You wouldn't have any alcohol left in your bloodstream by Monday afternoon anyway.

Eee...prices to Anchorage have dropped. Been tracking it on Yapta (which the lovely Nich linked me to a while ago), so that's a plus. They've come down to about $800-$900, so I'm hoping it keeps going down by the time I hopefully get my visa. :: flaps ::
