Ohhhhh :( not good news.

I know, I just went on the embassy's website and they haven't got anything about it. Maybe they'll mention something later on. There are three interviews scheduled on the 30th, Magpies inc.

It's been mentioned a few times that for US immigration medicals are only done at the Bentinck Street location even though the website says otherwise. They do medicals for other countries too so maybe their website is generic.

I stand corrected. Yes, Bentinck Street is where Pat is scheduled to go.

Oh gawd. Why would they close the embassy? I'm really nervous now...I'm surprised they haven't sent me some kind of notice.

A Nervous Magpie.

I just found this whilst booking some travel at work (the site also deals with visas):

'The US Embassy is going to be closed between Monday 30th March and Friday 03 April..'

Doesn't give a reason why though.

Where did you get that info from?

hmm.

dear embassy,

please do not be closed on EITHER 30 march or 04 april, as it is annoying. it is not convenient for any of us who are keen to avail ourselves of your services, and it is especially insulting to those among us who HAVE INTERVIEWS ON THOSE DAYS. please reconsider having your office team-building day or multi-cultural sensitivity training on a weekend day instead.

thanks much.

<sigh>

though i can't imagine it is going to be closed. no holidays or anything that i know of.

I got it from the corporate site I book travel on at work. It said that due to the US Embassy being closed between those dates no visa's (I'm assuming business ones) would be issued during that week. But as I said, absolutely no reason given as to why.

If you check the embassy holidays on this page: http://www.usembassy.org.uk/ukpubhol.html it does not say anything about the embassy being closed on March 30- April 3rd. And I do not think the embassy would schedule interviews on days they are supposed to be closed, highly unprofessional and quite stupid of them if they do...which means that they are open on March 30- April 3rd. Maybe the site that Laura is taking about is not up to date with recent information regarding embassy holidays. If the US Embassy in London is supposed to be closed March 30 - April 3, they must disclose it to the public on their website, by law.

Visa Journey completed, but we are still here to provide support! :)

Maybe it's just for business visas, like Laura said...? I don't know. I'm sure they would have contacted everyone with interviews between March 30th and the 3rd April if they were changing things around, but in any case, it would be incredibly unprofessional and inconsiderate.

The information I posted was under a News Alert title so it may be relatively new. The Embassy may post the information later on and the closure may be nothing to do with a public holiday. I wish I could post the link showing it but I can't as the site is password protected, I also wish they gave a reason to why but they didn't.

Hopefully I'm wrong about the whole thing but why would they say 'the US Embassy' is closed and not just the business visa section?

I just remembered something. Obama is visiting Europe 31 Mar to 5 Apr and the G20 summit is being held in London that week. I wonder if that's anything to do with it?
