Knight here:

Allright, well, I know you said that they're strict on African males, but Sunshine here is a female South Asian who hasn't been in India since she was born there. I don't think that the US is so ####### retentive as to ask her to get a certificate from India when 1) She is not an Indian citizen 2) She hasn't been there since she was born and 3) It's absurd to think that an infant has any capacity to do malicious harm to others. If they wind up asking her for that, I am going to officially renounce being an American. And that's no small oath because I have always been deeply patriotic to this "land of the free."

No, no, no....not a problem with Sunshine's police certificate. That was in reference to Stevi who somebody else mentioned. I was just saying her's wasn't exactly AP but more of an RFE for another police certificate because they deemed the one he brought wasn't sufficient.

Magpie, you will know on March 30 exactly what the plan is. That's plenty of time to book the little Bean and yourself too. We're all crossing our fingers that they say APPROVED on that day since you were such a wee one when you moved to the UK. I'll be waking up pre-dawn just to find out. You better get on a computer asap so I don't wake up early for nothing.

I think it's funny that Nich called her "Sunshine" since I've been calling her that for a while now, she's my Sunshine Girl because you really just have to see that heart-melting smile she's got :}

Well, my Knight can have a potty mouth on him when he has a mind to.

im glad to hear it. i dont care much for goodie-goodies. <wicked>

im also glad to see that you are feeling less anxious about it. and fyi, i have always imagined 'warm fuzzies' to be a lot like burdocks that stick to your clothes (or your dog) when walking about in the great outdoors.

burdock.jpg

also, fyi, the opposite of 'warm fuzzies' is 'cold pricklies'. awww. (anyone remember that super-touchy-feely 70s book? hee.)

Sarah Palin doesn't represent your 'typical alaskan' one bit ;D

or your typical woman or your typical american, i should hope.

i live in vermont and i think vermonters are possibly a bit like alaskans. slightly on the fringe of middle-america and living in a frozen tundra part of the year. we also enjoy snowmobiling and whittling in our spare time. : p. takes a certain kind. a good kind! having said that, there are good people everywhere.

aww. lovely.

ps. i do not snowmobile or whittle, unfortunately. so please dont ask me to whittle you anything.

three in a row, sorry.

so, i got a letter from my employer for the I-134. since i am employed seasonally (at a garden center for 10 months a year) and paid hourly (rather than having a regular salary), im worried that the information in the letter may not be what the person at the embassy is looking for. im sure my income would be considered borderline. therefore, my mother will be my co-sponsor and her employment (and financial stuff in general) is more solid-looking/traditional than mine.

the letter i got includes my start date, my position, my current pay rate and the number of total hours i worked last year. i am concerned that it doesnt state the total amount of money i earned. and it states that i am employed seasonally.

i do know we both will need compete the i-134 and submit the required supporting evidence.

is it okay for me to be more picky about the format and content of my mother's portion of the affidavit of support since it will be her info that will show solid evidence of support?

do you guys think that i should try to have my letter redone to reflect a total salary for the year or do you think its fine as is, and that i can just make sure that my mother's info is exactly what the I-134 asks for?

im having trouble phrasing my question, but i hope you can understand what i am asking.

thanks all.

edit: typos, etc.

I need some advice here, guys.

Some of you know of the circumstances under which I became estranged from my family; to be brief, I clashed with them culturally, and they were emotionally and physically abusive towards me for 21 years. I left in late November, under police assistance, with my cat and whatever documentation I could find (I had already been moving my clothes and such into my university dorm).

As I was only able to find a photocopy of my birth certificate, I managed to contact the hospital where I was born in -- in India -- and requested a new one. They told me I had to show up in person, with a relative, which simply isn't possible. The police were kind enough to provide me with a letter explaining my circumstances, and I was hoping that it will be enough for the interview.

I was wondering, though, if anybody knows of any laws that allow me to demand, through the police, my original birth certificate. I did contact the officer who's been helping me and left him a voicemail, but he hasn't got back to me yet. Does it work the same way it does with passports, and that you can't force someone to return the item to you? I know it's my right as a citizen to hold onto it, but I'm afraid that they might just refuse and the police can do nothing about it, or they'll claim they don't have it at all (or even destroy it). I understand that it's required to get citizenship or a job or something...

Any advice you can offer me would be wonderful.

Thank you!

Magpie.

i am unhappy that you were ever treated that way. i am sorry your family doesnt understand that you are a really amazing person just the way you are. (i can tell this about you even via the worldwidewebinternet.) im glad you have potty mouth to love you and be extra nice to you. <3

it seems like a birth certificate, if it existed still, would be your property. its a shame that the indian govt or that hospital cant issue you a new ceritified one. i do think that contacting the police is a good start. forewarned is forearmed.

mmmm, so according to my NVC info and DHL tracking, the embassy received our case on March 2nd, still not heard anything from them though and called DOS and rip-off line and they can't really shed any light on it. Is it normal to wait 2 weeks or more for packet 3? Do you think theres just a backlog right now?

:: Hugs :: Thank you, Lisabette. The officer did get back to me and he said that because there's no evidence my family "stole" the certificate, it's a civil matter. The problem would thus be requesting it from them, which would only give them some kind of leverage against me. The other issue is that they're trying to get around the warnings not to contact me by harassing me via a solicitor about custody of my cat, but it's mostly to scare me -- they have no written proof of ownership. My own solicitor has been backing me up and representing me, and while I could ask her, her response would likely be the same as the police officer's. We've got the upper hand at the moment, and at this point, I'd rather not give them anything to use against me.

For all I know, they might have destroyed it years ago; it could be why I could only find a photocopy. Doesn't matter that it's my property, because there's no telling where it is. At least I tried though, and there's nothing much I can do at this point. :( Blah.

It did take a few weeks for me to get the Packet 3...so don't worry too much about it. It is probably a backlog because they have a jillion different cases to deal with. :D It'll get to you!
