Also you have to confirm on the checklist that you have the police certificate so you probably want to get that done ASAP

Sorry to spread my reply over 3 posts - you need to send the IV-15 checklist back before they will schedule the interview. It wasn't clear from your post if you were including that.

If you would like the checklist, can you PM me with your email, please? And any colour preferences :D. It'll be in two shades of a colour or I can alternate different colours.

the checklist has been updated by the embassy and can now be downloaded from the visa forms page. They have altered it slightly so probably best to use the new one.

Oh, no...this is just a little checklist I have on the front of my visa folder for the interview. It basically lists passport, photos, police certificate, etc. -- just what you're asked to bring in your Packet 4. It was just a fun little thing I did to spruce up my boring folder and make it pretty.

hiya tayless. congratulations on your recent success! and thank you for taking the time to help.

okay. let's see.

how do i know if my case is 'in the system'? DOS told me that the case had been rec'd by the london embassy. (we will double check this if we dont see 'packet 3' in the next week.) there seems to be a bit of a delay (2 - 4 weeks?) from the embassy receiving the case from the NVC until the 'packet 3' is rec'd by the applicant. im happy to wait until we exist in their system to send materials, but i want to be ready to push for an earlier interview if time starts to become an issue.

police check is ready to go out on monday 9 mar

immunizations are being tracked down (and i am hoping that gets settled before the medical, which is not scheduled yet. we will try to hold off on scheduling the medical until either a. we get them in hand or b. we are convinced that they cannot be found in the paper files. we are hoping this will be resolved by friday 13 mar)

i think i understand about the checklist. i know (or i think i know) that it is the completed checklist and completed IV-15k that trigger the scheduling of the interview date. i see at the bottom of the current link to the checklist that it says January 2009, so i think that is the updated one.

i feel like a bit of a thread-hog, but i know that there are other lurkers and non-lurkers out there gleaning helpful information from this sort of thing. plus, there's the added bonus of the therapeutic effect of analysing the details of this process. : D

Question regarding Affidavit of Support and proof of financial income........

Just confused at the moment about what evidence I need to show that I don't become a public charge in the USA. What are the requirements as far as the US Embassy in London are concerned? I found the instructions on the Affidavit to be very vague.

My Fiancee will sponsor me and we will have a co-sponsor since she doesn't quite make enough to meet the minimum requirements. I've heard all about tax transcripts, pay stubs, W2's, 1040's etc etc but can our US/UK forumites clear this up for me? Which of these do I need and what are the purpose of each form? Do they need to be notarised? Do they have to be original copies? Over how long a period of time, for the past year, two years etc?

Basically I am asking if you had to do a checklist for the Affidavit what would be in it? Thanks!

Sorry, i'm having a really stressful time with these forms and my printer has just died on me half way through printing the DS156  I'll have to start again at work tomorrow.

My question is: Do I have to fill out a copy of the DS157 for myself and another for my daughter?

And, for the checklist, do I just tick the relevant boxes, I don't need to cross through the things I am not bringing (like military records and custody decress etc)? Thanks

Heya :D you just need two forms of evidence. W-2s and Tax Returns should be fine for both sponsor and co-sponsor (please correct me if I'm wrong, VJers). Knight's a full-time student so while he had to fill out a form, he didn't have W-2s to send. W-2s are proof of employment forms (employment verification). Knight's mum did send her W-2 and tax return, the most recent ones -- but I'm not sure how recent they have to be, so the others might be able to clarify that. You don't have to have them notorized but you can do :D. I hope that helps!

@_@ Blah, I know how that can be. The university comp crashed twice when I was working on the forms and I had to do them over.

I'd think yes for the DS-157s for yourself and your daughter, but can someone verify this, please?

And with the checklist, just write "N/A" next to the boxes for things you don't need to send. :D That's what I did and there wasn't a problem.

Thanks Magpie! Based on what you are saying then the following pieces of evidence would be sufficient...

Sponsor's 2008 W-2 and 1040

Co Sponsor's 2008 W-2 and 1040 (Don't know if 2007 and 2006 would be needed for the sponsors)

Does that mean the Statement from the Employer would not be required since that is the point of having the W-2? Would this mean if you didn't have a W-2 you can replace this piece of evidence with the Statement from the Employer? So I'd guess the pay stubs aren't a requirement if you have the above forms to hand?

Lastly, what is a tax transcript, is it just a copy of the above forms (W-2 and 1040) if the originals were lost?

Thanks alot, god knows where i'd be without this place!

Aye this forum is a life saver, this whole process is just way too complicated.

Lastly, what is a tax transcript, is it just a copy of the above forms (W-2 and 1040) if the originals were lost?

from what i understand, they are simplified tax return records (or transcripts) and they will have all of the information that the embassy would want for the tax portion of the I-134 (if you are submitting tax information). i think they take the place of a 1040 and a w-2 (please correct me if this is wrong).

i ordered mine today on the phone, as back-up and peace of mind for myself.

they are free. the automated system is 24/7 is easy to navigate. the forms will take 10-15 days to arrive. but they are unnecessary if you have complete tax returns for the appropriate years.

i think what is next for you is checking with the nvc to see if they have received your case (which is forwarded to them from the USCIS). you should get a letter pretty soon from the NVC that states that they have indeed received your case and gives you your new case number. for london, it will start with LND.

here is some of the info from the vj nvc info page:

Telephone:

(603) 334-0700

An automated recorded message system is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to answer case status inquiries.

Status of case information can only be provided by entering your NVC case number or CIS receipt number (USCIS NOA1 receipt number). NVC has information on received petitions only. If the automated system does not recognize the NVC case number or CIS receipt number you entered, most likely caused by NVC has not yet received your petition.

Telephone operators are available to respond to more in-depth inquiries.

Hours: Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM (EST). Best time to call is 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM to 12:00 PM.

hope that helps a little. let us know if you need more help.

and i know i didnt answer your direct question, but i didnt really understand what you were asking. if you are curious about the timing of things, you can look at people's timelines with dates similar to yours in the timeline section of vj. here's a few to look at: k-1, vsc, london embassy you can get a feel for the timing if you browse through these.
