HI, I'm from the Philippines. My US Citizen father petitioned me last March 3, 2003 and when I checked the status online here's what I received...

Receipt Number:

Application Type: I130, IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN

Current Status: Approval notice sent.

On June 14, 2007, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service.

You can choose to receive automatic case status updates, which will be sent via email. Please click here to create an account online.

What happens after this? What does an APPROVAL NOTICE means? Until now, no letter or update regarding the petition. It was filed march 3, 2003. Does it usually take this long or I'm missing something here... Hope someone can help me with this. Attached is the update on the USCIS site. Thanks

Just follow the instructions on that notice that has been sent. Everybody's case is a little different.

Hi, It has been almost 2 years now. You should have received an instruction letter from them. You should have contacted the national visa center nvc about your case long ago. Your father should call for you or you may call the nvc 603-334-0700 and speak with an operator monday - friday 7:30m to 12am. Hope all is ok. Good luck.

Calling the phone number indicated in the letter won't hurt. You can also contact your stepfather since most of the documents will be sent to him to be completed.

My USC husband petitioned my son in 2006. it got approved in 2006, then we went on to supply all additional requirements like the affidavit, etc, then mid '07 - '08, we didn't hear anything from them. We called and we found out that although it was marked in their system that everything had been received, nothing had been done. And so it got expedited from then on. I often wonder what would have happened if we hadn't called.

I think that being approved for I130 doesn't guarantee that a visa number is available immediately, depending on the country you're from. It also depends on how old you were when your stepfather petitioned you.

Good luck!

The next step is that your case will be sent to the National Visa Center (NVC) to wait for a visa. I will assume that you are 21 years of age or older.

The US only hands out a limited number of immigration visas every year for those in the family immigration preference categories. There are always more people wanting visas then there are available in any one year. So, people must have to wait many years in order for a visa to become available.

You are either in the F1, USC petitioning for unmarried child 21 years or older, or F3, USC petitioning for married child. Currently, visas are available for Filipinos in the F1 category who had I-130s filed before July 15, 1993 and for Filipinos in the F3 category who had I-130s filed before June 1, 1991. Your category will initially be determined by your status at the time of filing, but it will ultimately be determined at the time a visa becomes available.

You will have to wait another 10-12 years before an immigration visa will be available to you.

My brother is in the F3 category. His case was approved in 2001. The last notice from USCIS/NVC was in 2003. I have checked in over the years and the case is still on hold waiting for an available visa.

I have a similar situation.

Help please,

I'm an unmarried son over the age 21 of a US citizen.

I am Canadian. I was 25 when my Father filed for me, and he was a Permanent Resident at the time. He is now a US Citizen and has been for over a year.

I received this email in the spring:

Application Type: I130, IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN

Current Status: Approval notice sent.

On May 22, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service.

Now as I understand it, I am in the F1 family immigration category, which is unmarried sons and daughters of US citizens. And this category is allotted 23,400 visas a year.

My priority date, the date that we filed the application is January 2003.

Seeing as the US Department of State/NVC is processing applications from the F1 category with a priority date of July 2002, I thought my number would be up. . . as my priority date is January 2003. So I was thinking that it would be sooner versus later.

I am not too concern with an exact date as to when the visa number will come available. But am more so looking for a ball park estimate.

I apologise in advance if this information is already on the board.

Help me pls!

Don't worry if you don't know the outcome.

Let your highest ideals guide you through the process.

In the end, it's your integrity that will have the most impact on your happiness.
