My husband and I have been living with my parents since he arrived in late January. We are trying to save money for a down payment on a condo or something and just trying to get on our feet basically.

For his AOS interveiw...we dont have a lease or many bills like electrisity and water in our names. All we have is a shared heath insurance and dental insurance and a credit card. We dont have a shared bank acct. yet because my bank wouldnt allow us to until he had a green card, so he got a savings acct. at a totally different bank...im thinking of switching and getting a joint account soon there anyhow.

Is this normal? we dont have a lease and he doesnt have his liscence yet...he walks to work.

should I be stressing about this?

We did not have much of much being that I have not been here long. The interviewer took that into consideration. Take what you do have and if you were going to do so anyway, switch bank accounts to create a joint one.

We didn't have anything except a couple of joint bank accounts with both our names on it, and we passed.

We couldn't get my name added to any of the utility bills (stupid town owns them all and they're idiots, apparently 2 names wont' fit ) we couldn't afford to get me medical insurance on his plan, and my name is not on the title to the house or the cars.

He should get a state ID, this way you'll show that your addresses match.

Get a joint account, it's important, especially since you're missing other things.

Definitely try to get a joint account; Citizen's Bank let us open one with just his passport and SSN.

Do you have cards addressed to the two of you? Maybe for your wedding or something?

open a NETFLIX account in both your names.. have the envelopes addresses as Sarah & Otman XXXXX.. at xxxx some road. some town usa.. .

this will help having mail addressed to you both.

Blockbuster or other accounts. as well..

Pls dont ever get a lease together. If one of you guys brakes the contract the other one is going to get screwed as well. Thanks to my genious husband (the smartest person in this world) thats what happened to me. Dont mees up your life for Immigration, its not worth it. And by the way that doesn't relaly matter either way.

You want mail in both name coming to the same address. Both names don't nessecarily have to be on at the same time. Just some evidence to show you are living at the same address.

My husband and I also lived with my parents for a couple of months before renting our own apartment. In fact we still lived with them during the AOS interview. We just brought a letter to the interview written from my parents stating we lived with them since date: xx/xx/xxxx to current date. Our interviewing officer had no problems with the letter and didn't even question the fact we still lived with them. Plus we only had a few things like insurance with both of our names on them and it was no problem! I would not stress .

Why don't you try a credit union? Having a joint account has helped us immensely in the process and I think that showing you share assets would be extremely important at your interview.

It is almost impossible to get your name on any utilities, because they would require you to have credit history or a HUGE deposit.

Joint accounts are good, and also as rch99 said, mail addressed to any of you, as long as it have the same addres.

Kopa that is some good advice. My husband and I are living with his parents until we move into our house in December. I will definately get them to write us a letter stating we stayed there because we don't have any insurance, credit, cars, or lease/mortgage in both our names. (The house is in his mothers name because we couldn't get a mortgage). About the only thing we have together is a bank account at Wachovia. They let me get an account with my Canadian passport.

I had that problem. All my utilities have been in my name for over 20 years. All the utilities were more than happy to change to my married name -- but NONE would add his name.....without him having a job and some sort of credit history.
