it's been 2 weeks since they have received my I-130 and still no check cashed or NOA1. what should i expect first? i'm trying to leave to go back to philippines but i can't coz i'm worried there might be an RFE. if there is, i can't do squat 8,000 miles away. i was thinking of doing a DCF when i go next month. maybe i'll feel better once i can start tracking the receipt number

I think it all depends... My check for my I-130 petition cleared yesterday but I still haven't received a NOA1. But looking at other members' timelines, I see that the NOA1 will sometimes come before the check clears. It's safe to say they occur within 1 week of each other, though.

The check being cashed or receiving NOA1 has no bearing on whether or not you will receive an RFE. This wont happen until later during processing if it is going to happen.

Wishing you the best.

thanks phong and aussie. still no no cashed check or NOA1. if i understand correctly, the first instance of an RFE is between NOA1 and NOA2 and the time it will take between NOA1 and NOA2 is around 2 months (according to the timelines on this site). so maybe i should arrange my travel plans anyway. i'll just prepare an I-129F package and leave it with my parents just in case the NOA1 comes while i'm away, they can make a copy and stick it with the package and mail it.

i wonder if i can fax my parents documents while i'm away just in case there is an RFE. or DCF would be a better option since i'll be travelling back. i never would imagine being in a situation where i can't control much of anything. BTW congrats aussie, i notice you recently got the visa. hopefully i'll be in the same boat as you and many others on here
