My fiancee has been out of work for the past year. This is mainly due to her visiting me for a total of 6 months in 2008. I have been basically supporting her in NZ for the rest of the time. She has worked for her rent, nanny'ing her nephews, but nothing official.

I make well enough income to cover the I-134 affidavit of support.

Is her lack of work/income the past year going to be viewed negatively in the Interview?

Beneficiary's employment/lack-of won't have an affect on the interview - USC's employment/income is and it sounds like you've got that covered - don't worry.

I'm in the same situation, the only problem is that I am the USC (Female) and I wonder if they are going to have extra issues with a male from Central America attempting fraud to come to US just to work - what do you all think?

I wouldn't put a lot of stock into those thoughts (I know, easier said than done, but). They are going to focus on your evidence and your (the USC's) ability to support both of you (and any household you may have).

If you think about it - even if a foreign fiancé/spouse was employed, it's a given that they are likely to soon be unemployed when they move to the US (most people anyway). Assume the best...

Good idea is to read in the Latin America forum here on VJ to get a sense of how things go with fiances coming from Guatemala. From your timeline it looks like a love relationship. But I'm not the consular officer to be convinced. And there's a lot more to the process.

Do your reading, ask lots of questions, get ready for the adventure. It's worth it!

Good point! Fortunately I am in my third year teaching and make plenty about the poverty line, so I'm pretty sure that won't be a problem.

From your timeline it looks like a love relationship.

It is indeed  Thanks!!!
