Swapping K-3 interview to a CR-1 interview???

I had read in a number of threads and in LingChe's Shortcuts that it's possible to continue with the K-3 (by returning the DS-230 part 1 to embassy) EVEN THOUGH we are also working on the CR-1 and plan on using this path.

By doing this the K-3 interview is scheduled and when your CR-1 completes it can be possible (depending on timelines) to use the K-3 interview alloted and change it to a CR-1 interview.

I was just wondering if anyone has done this? If so - how much time do you think it saved?

It's hard to say for sure how much time you save. It would be 2- 3 couple of weeks, but it totally depends.

I would suggest you try to complete the process so far as you can get a K-3 interview scheduled. Once you get the interview scheduled it's your call whether you want to follow through or not.

At the same time, you need to complete the CR-1 process at NVC as soon as possible. Have all documents ready to be sent. Minimize pitfalls and delays and get your case completed.

Once the CR-1 is complete, you need to wait for NVC to schedule an interview. If it looks like the CR-1 case will be scheduled and the case file will arrive at the consulate before your K-3 interview, you should be able to execute the switch. If not, you're better off just waiting for the CR-1.

So if you're interested, you should find out from the Consulate what they need for the K-3 process for them to schedule an interview, and you should get the CR-1 case complete ASAP.

I agree with the posters that many people have tried and failed. It's not easy but it's not impossible either.

The key is you need to know their rules and play by them. That is what I am trying to do. God willing it will work out, if not, I have the CR-1 process as a backup.
