Watched slumdog millionaire and hubby n I loved it.

he has read n seen the kite runner.. i havent yet but he always recommends it to me...

i know this is for foreign movies but Gran Torino is realllly good!! its not on netflix tho i think its in the movies or something but totally recommend it.

HLM - I love Gran Torino!!!!! We saw it last weekend and enjoyed it tremendously.

Allousa, I know what you mean about Gladiator...I, too, cry at the end just knowing he'll be reunited with his family.

I love foreign films and seems like right now I can hardly remember any of them. One of my very favorites is an African film titled "Yesterday". It was an HBO film that deals with this woman finding out that she contracted HIV/AIDS from her husband, a mineworker. It deals with her struggles as a wife, but also as a mother to her little girl "Beauty", whom she has to figure out what she's going to do with when she dies.

I LOVED Gran Torino. I am horrified that Clint E. was not in the running for an Oscar for this. He was INCREDIBLE in this film. The language is rough, but WOW! It was good. Highly recommend this film. Glad you mentioned it.

Oscar night is a big night for me. As you can see, I'm a huge movie fan. I swear I don't get into the celebrity of it, but the craft so to speak. I really like to see people rewarded for good work. I make it a point to see the movies that being presented. Alot of my friends and family will ask me opinions before they go to movies or rent them because they know I've usually seen it. I have a friend that tells me I need to be a movie critic in the local paper!

Netflix is my salvation because I can't go to movies as much as I did before my son. Once he goes to bed though...it's ON!

Thanks Staashi, that looks really interesting and I added it to my queue. Might be a bit before I see it, but I will eventually!

Emmanuel's Gift is on my list. I loved this documentary. What an amazing human being! I highly, highly recommend this...that is why I'm mentioning it twice!

If anyone liked Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon, I really think you would like Curse of the Golden Flower. I absolutely adore Chow Yun Fat who portrays the emperor in this film. But it's quite visually stunning. I would also suggest House of Flying Daggers if these films are of your taste.

Okay...I'm going to give you a list of films to stay away from that were absolutely BAD!!!!!!!! :ranting:

Delicatessen (French) Horrible - couldn't even hang to the end

Fur (Nicole Kidman) - LOVE Robert Downey, Jr., but this movie is just bad

Sublime - FREAK'IN weird! BAD!

Same here ! I actually have a movie reviews website in the works. I have written a few scripts and taken film classes, so my reviews will slant more towards the written mechanics of a film. Loved Gran Torino and Eastwood was unbelievable ! His character arc was evident as he made peace with ghosts of his past and helped give a young man a future. I am seeing Slumdog Millionaire tomorrow  Here are the pics from the filming location of Body of Lies. My husband and I hung out most of the day waiting to see DiCaprio, but he eluded us  It was surreal watching that one in the theater having been on those same streets in Rabat and listening to Leo speak ArabicMoroccopics499.jpg

Wanted to mention one more, however, it's not a foreign film....

Something the Lord Made

INCREDIBLE! And it's based on a true story. If you aren't moved by this film, not sure you have a heart!

 definitely agree. i enjoyed that movie a lot.

we saw mos def perform a few months ago. it was a fantastic show. music, acting-he's great at both.

I'm pretty jealous. I think Mos Def is highly underated and doesn't get the play that he should. He is VERY talented.

Just came from Slum Dog Millionaire ~ Wow ! Powerful, moving film  I am still amazed at how brothers and friends (I guess it happens in all cultures, as I witnessed it firsthand) don't want to see their countrymen advance, enjoy success & happiness even if they themselves have achieved a better way of life. It makes me sad that some are consumed by such jealousy and pettiness ! Great movie, tho. I hope it cleans up at the Oscars

I watched on Netflix yesterday a movie called Inch'allah Dimanche. It was really good. There were parts that were a bit slow and the end made me mad! But otherwise it was very touching.

I really did want her to!!! The only thing that I didn't really catch until the end was the historical time it was happening in. Once I figured that out it all made more sense (FYI it's just post-WW2 France). The stupid MIL made me want to scream!
