Hello everyone! :innocent:

This is a really wonderful site/forum that is so resourceful. I've been lurking around for the past few months and I am very impressed by the support, warmth and openness that the members here have shown to others.

I decided to register because I felt that since I spend so much time lurking, I might as well be a member. I hope I can share my experiences in the near future or least be an addition to the warm support here on this site.

My fiancée (US Citizen) and I (Japanese Citizen / Malaysian Permanent Resident) have decided to be together in the US. She is residing in New England, while I am in Malaysia. So, we started to plan for our future as our relationship, being a long distanced one proved to require a considerable amount of commitment and forethought. All sorts of questions popped into our minds that made this choice in being together a challenging one. Everything from careers, finances, lifestyle, family, citizenship, etc. I guess everyone here knows the jig and the jive.

We have been together for a year, communicating mostly through emails, chat messengers, and phone. We met a few of months back where I popped the question. This has been one of the best periods of my life, to be really frank.

Right now, we face a few concerns that hopefully over time we would addressed. Firstly, we come from conservative families therefore needing to seek their formal blessings. Secondly, the issue of bringing my mother to the US from Malaysia (which requires me to be a US citizen first before being able to sponsor her - I'm her only dependent). Lastly, the choice to forgo my Malaysian PR status and maybe my Japanese citizenship. On her side, not much else except her current worries about the US economy in terms of employment for the both of us.

Well, that's basically my short story. Hope to bump into any of you around in the forums!

Cheers!

C'mon in, the water is just fine. Welcome to VJ!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
