Hey guys.. hoping someone could help me.

Those who were married in CA or Los Angeles.. How long did it take you to get your marriage license from the country clerk or the marriage certificate on that special paper from the County Clerk?

the certified copy that is on the special paper... and that's what I sent a copy with our AOS packet and took the original to the interview.

ours will be done by mail.. can we just go there? we were married last week and the chapel's notary was the one that took it to the county clerk. can we do something or do we just have to wait? we paid for rush but they are telling us that the county clerk is a bit backed up right now and it might take 3-5 weeks?? crazy!

we were married in september, and at the end of the month (2 weeks later) we went to the County Recorder's Office, requested a Certified Copy of the marriage license, and got it that same day.

$14 for each copy I think.

I got 2 copies, gave one to the interviewer today. She asked for an original copy.

Just make sure it says Certification of vital records.

For us, LA County Clerk takes about 1 month by mail to get certificate. The check and request was included when the officiant sent in the signed license.

Just to be clear, it's your marriage certificate that is required. A marriage license is not a marriage certificate, even if both appear on the same page.

Call your local county clerk if you're in a hurry.

In our case, the usual procedure was for the officiant to mail the paperwork to the county clerk/recorder after the service. Once a week, the recorder would gather a batch of all the certificates that had been received that week, record them all, and mail out certified copies. That worked fine for most people, because they were off on a honeymoon somewhere, and they'd come home to find the certificate in their mailbox.

But they were familiar with the fact that some people wanted rush service. If you asked, you could hand deliver the paperwork to the office in the morning, and they'd have the certificate recorded and certified copies ready to be picked up in person a few hours later in the afternoon. No extra charge. We were married on a Sunday, took the paperwork to the office on Monday at about 11:00am, and got our certified copies of our marriage certificate at about 2:30pm on Monday.

So if you're in a hurry, call them in advance, explain your situation, and ask. It may vary from one county to the next.

We were married in San Diego, and it took us about 5 minutes to get ours. Just filled out a request for it, paid, then the lady printed it out while we waited. They told us after we got married it took longer for the mail request, so thats why we went in person.
