Hi,

I think now i can start the whole learning to drive experience as i got my NOA1 for my greencard. I have never driven before and i have to say after been on the highways down in CT and around boston with my wife i am a little nervous. People in boston are crazy drivers.

My wife gave me 3 lessons a few weeks ago.Driving in first gear, using the blinkers when taking left or righ.Learning to park properly.Learning to stop on a hill. Stopping the car without stalling the engine etc. I was using standard instead of automatic.

My understanding is now i can get my drivers permit after doing a written test.Take a few lessons then take the actual drivers test is that correct.

Driving in Boston is scary no matter how long you've been driving in the U.S.! Those streets were designed for horse and buggies, not SUVs!

Just expect that the person in front of you/beside you/behind you is going to do the stupidest thing possible and prepare for it. :)

Good luck!

Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth.

Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.

Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.

Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.

Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.

Depends on the state.

Every state has its own set of rules.

I have checked

Residence status

Provide Social Security Identification Card and ONE of the following:

Valid permanent resident card issued by the Bureau of Citizenship & Immigration Services (BCIS).

Valid I-94 departure card indicating refugee status.

Valid employment authorization card and proof of application for permanent residence status.

It appears i can apply for the drivers permit.

I agree the drivers on the highways around Boston are complete nutters. It makes the M25 look like a quiet walk in the park.

Our state published similar requirements but wouldn't issue the learner's license until Wes had EAD in hand. They were'nt satisfied with just the I-94 in the passport even though the rules clearly stated it. And it wasn't just a case of going to an office who possibly did not know what they were doing. The local office faxed the I-94 to the main DMV in Charleston and they refused the license till he had his EAD. Hope you don't run into the same trouble....

Worse than New York City? :o

Yeh, I think they are. NYC is slow compared to turnpikes around Boston! I feel much safer there than in Mass.
