Hello Folks,

My US citizen wife and I have decided to divorce. I need your advice regarding hiring a lwayer to represent my I751 case/application. What are your thoughts? I have all the evidence to establish a good faith marriage. The lawyer is asking for $1500.

Thanks

Not that I am a super expert on this topic and I am also not going through the same situation as yours, but I have seen a couple people here that have gone through the same without a lawyer. I think as long as you can prove that it was in good faith that you guys got married, you will be good. But just my opinion.

Would your wife write them a statement supporting the good faith marriage?

good luck to you!!

Yup I agree with last reply. You don't really need a lawyer for the I-751 just prove that the marriage was in good faith. This would mean showing official paper work with your names at the same address. I say this because I have done it.

In fact I filed my own divorce papers too!

Don't need lawyers unless its a very complex situation involving children and other issues. I wouldn't consider this complex just time consuming!

HI there,

I am sorry for your issues, I was in the same shoes as you are, I got married inaugust of 2007, not even 2 years, and My USC husband showed me what hell looked liked since I got my PRC in dec of 2007, my divorce was final by august of 2008, and I filed for removal I 751 in Oct of 2008 and went through BIO 2 weeks later or so, I added all the evidence and more, and a very long 12 pages of my personal letter, and believe me, I have been waiting 3 months to get a letter of interview, but guess what??? I got approved without interview,2 days ago, no interview or rfe, it took exactly 3 months from filing the I 751 to approval, and my whole immigration journey from I-130,I -485 and I-751 ( on waiver ground) lasted only 1 year and 5 months, God is the doer of all things, it was stressful, but trust me, I added all the evidence I could get.

You can send me a personal email and I will guide you, since day 1 I never used any lawyers, until the end, just took my time and filed.

Keep in touch and I will tell you about my experience.
