transfering money to America and temp health insurance.

Ok I am leaving in 14 days (wooohhooo :dance: ) But I still have one or two things to get in order and I was hoping for some personal reconmendations.

First off i have to work out the best way to transfer my money over to there. (not a lot less that £1000) Because its such a piddly amount I would like to find amethod that doesnt take so much off me in fees but is quick easy and trust reliable.

Has anyone got any reconmendations for this?

Secondly because I am flying over on the 18th of feb and the wedding is not till the 9th of April. I was thinking it might be prudent to get some health insurance till I can go on Vitos insurance as his wife? (this occured to me last night when Vito was constantly asking if I need to see a doctor, for the fourth time since xmas, I haven't had much luck avoiding the lurgy this year ich)

What do you guys think should we get some temp medical insurance over there? Do you have any reconmedations for this?

Also is there any insurance for my flight incase of a calamity (I hope not touch wood) that i have to miss my flight and get a new one? Its usually done under travel insurance but I thought that is null and void now i have a k1?

I have been researching short term catastrophic insurance plans for my SO and found some satisfactory plans

on ehealthinsurance dot com. For what it is worth-United Health One has been recommended to me by a couple of people.

this is what I use to move small amounts of money UK-US - I know a lot of other VJers use them too.

The set up is slightly cumbersome as they have to validate your account with a phone interview. But other than that they have cheap fees, quick and good customer service - I have no complaints

hi! i used pay pal took about 10 days to transfer to my other halves bank !!i transfer 700£ cost me £5 you could do this plus you could leave the money in paypal until you need it! when i visited last

couldnt you get travel insurance form engalnd because you will be getting a return flight ! and i no it wont happen but you visa is for 90 days and if you dont marry you will be returning to england.. so technicallyyou would be returning!! maybe this could work out!

sure or change to dollars before you come... or if you have a bank account with Visa ATM just come over here and take it from the ATM machine

I dont know I thought that the k1 voided it? hmm anyone else got info on this? also my return flight is booked way after my Visa expires.

I think the travel insurance would be OK if anything happened to the flight out however it won't cover you when you are in the US as you are not planning on coming back. You can get some cheap temp immigrant health insurance. Just google 'temporary immigrant health insurance'.

When my husband moved here, he opened an account with Nationwide building society. They claim no fees to withdraw money any where other then if the machine itself charges.. and it stands true. He still has money in the account and we're waiting for the exchange rate to go up to withdraw it. But he hasn't been charged at all to withdraw the money here in America. It's an easy way for his parents/family to send bday money and xmas money. as for sending money to England it's harder.

The travel insurance is pricey but there are ones that will cover you under a K-1. I found one for Damian not too long ago because he wanted to play soccer. and I wrote to the company and explained the situation and they told me he was covered. I can't remember the company tho, sorry.

We have Blue Cross Blue Shield short term health insurance, it is excellent, pays for doctors visits as well as any ER/ hospital stuff needed- even the kid's vaccinations. You can get it for up to 180 days. Be sure to check the fine print though, for most US healthinsurance you have to be a US legal resident, which I think technically you are not on a K1 till married?
