we did the same thing, studying the web info since january, and finally tomorrow my husband has an appointment at uscis office to verify with them we have the right documents required with I-130. otherwise, when you call them for info as he did, they read exactly what is written on I-130... hopefully he'll send ours tomorrow.

I just checked the status of my case on the USCIS Website and it says that the last time it was updated was today (02/17/09). Is that a "touch"? When I checked yesterday, the date was 02/13/2009. Is there a possibility that they're actually looking at my files?

And btw....a touch can mean many things, yes...it can certainly mean they are looking at or working on your file....but it can also mean...well....that they have "touched" or picked up your file or simply decided to update. Either way....it's still a whole nother step towards getting your approval in my opinion.

I will be filling out a CR-1 pretty soon here after I get on up to Canada and marry the girl! Do I have to tell the border guards that I'm entering to marry my fiance, or does it matter? I'm going to be bringing her down here after the CR-1 is finished up.

hmmm...we have family in canada so we go there about 3 times a year and we do our absolute best to NOT tell them that we're going to visit family because of past experiences and them thinking we might try to just STAY there forever with them....as if all u.s citizens are so desperate to live in canada...whats canada got that we don't? lol...j.k.

My advice is....and take it as advice ok....because ADVICE is all that it is.....you don't HAVE to tell them everything. I've noticed that the more info you give them, the more questions they ask about whats in your car what your taking or bringing back what you had for breakfast (ok maybe not) somewhere somehow, amidst all those questions and answers you can bet you'll end up saying something you'll regret. I prefer to be vague by saying niagra falls...trip..gonna come back tonight...not staying, no gifts, no food in the car.....definitely planin' on comin' right back to good ol' United States. But really...it depends on your own situation you know.....

But, then again....being truthful is always a safe way. They might try to send you and your car in for security check and the likes...worst comes to worst they might keep you overnight or send you back on your way home.....but still...atleast you had nothing to hide the whole way. *shrugs*

just my opinion ok, take it for what it is...an opinion. Best of luck.

plus....after you get married, it's not like the guard's going to track you down and send you to canadian jail for marrying your fiance instead of just going to meet her now is he......if that were true, then I must say the U.S law system could seriously consider taking a leaf out of the canadians' book!

i got my NAO1 in the mail today...yipee...my hubby was so happy and im like..."its just the beginning...dont get all excited!"

anyway i registered online...and when i do case status search and type in my reciept number...it shows that it was recieved on feb 12, 2009 (is that the date of my NAO1)?

then when i go to my portfolio...it said that it was last updated 02/17/2009 (today?) does that mean i got a "touch"?

welcome mumtaz...finally u sent yours too. i did the same, study the process very well and put all the documents together since december...and if it wasnt for pakistans slow postal service i would have filed january but its fine...february might be our lucky month for our new beginning!

now that our petition is finally in action...im so excited and nervous... im so motivated to study harder and better...actually my husband and i were fighting the whole week last week and i got so depressed and mad at him...i totally went down, its a wonder how i carried on...but we are trying to kiss and makeup now...i didnt know things between us would get so hard and difficult (the fight was about his family, cultural differences blah blah)...

I think the NOA1 date is usually the date that is on the hard copy...but I'm not completely sure though. and definitely you got a touch on 02/17/2009!!!!

its been 1 week now since my info has reached Uscis and they still havent cashed my check and I still havent recieved my NoA1 should I be concerned or is this normal ?

This is normal, it took about 12 days for me to get my NOA1. Check with your bank to see when the check is cashed..and you should get the NOA1 a couple of days after that.

hi mumtaz and everyone else reading this! yup that's my baby boy right there! MASHALLAH! i thank GOD for the two wonderful men he has given to me...i miss them so much! its kinda neat because when people as what my sons nationality is, i cant give them a one word answer...i usually say well he is half pakistani and half filipino but is american as well?

anyway...i have noticed many people asking questions about filing the taxes. i am asking my cousin to do mine, she's a tax lawyer and asked me to get my husband an ITIN number (do the w7 form and send a notarized copy of his passport)

what are you all doing? this is actually my first time to file my taxes...
