[REPOST]

Hi everyone,

Long time no see.....lol. Well....POE went easily enough. We got off at JFK and went through immigrations quick enough. They took us to a separate room to ask Haseeb and I some questions and the guy was very nice and really funny. We enjoyed it actually....were only there like 10-15 minutes. He asked to see the poe packet, the sealed one...and I gave that to him. Afterwards, he only asked to confirm the address where the greencard could be mailed and I gave the Michigan one (where I am staying now, not with Haseeb though he's still in NY working his bottom off :(). I miss my husband so much....so damn much. But I have to have the baby here where my mom and sis are and then I will go back home to my hubs when we have a proper place to stay that is big enough for all 3 of us....inshallah I am praying that will be soon. Sometime in late Feb or early March. Anyways, so the guy asked Haseeb the questions and didn't mind at all if I replied for him...and even said Haseeb's got plenty of time to get used to the Brooklyn accents now he'll be staying in NY and gave us a big smile. Then he only asked about Haseeb's education, we told him he's completed B-COM part 1 and inshallah plans on completing the rest of his semesters here in NY once the baby is born and we get settled in nicely enough. He was really happy to hear that and asked if I was planning to do anything further with my education and I told him yeah I miss college....can't wait till the baby is big enough (3-6 months) that I can begin leaving him with Haseeb to go back to college. Thats all he asked and afterwards he told us good luck and to take care and we left to get our baggage. It was darn easier than I could have ever imagined. God really listened to all of my desperate prayers and all of the tears I've shed over this. When I came back to Michigan 2 days ago all of my girl friends and all of my moms and dads friends asked how my husband got his visa in such little time...9 months to be exact cause no one they new had gotten it in less than 2 years waiting AP or no.....and all I could say is....Shukran Allah Shukran Mola THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well....31 weeks pregnant now....and I'm actually really beginning to "feel" the pregnant part of being pregnant. I'm really sleepy now and my eyes are heavy so.....although it's 1:35 pm here.....I'm so taking a nap. HEHE.

All right....well, it has been 12 business days (18 days incl wknds) since POE and we have yet to receive the SSN in the mail as of yet. I'm wondering how much longer I'll have to wait to get that...and what should we do if/when we don't.

Also...anyone know what the average time is for getting the green card after poe? I'm hoping it's within a month...what happens if it doesn't come in a month...or three even. Who would we call to check up on that and see whats going on with the green card?

And....after green card and ssn......anyone wanna refresh my memory on what the next steps are and how to go about them? LOL. I know....I should know by now, but I just wanted to see what you guys have to say on the subject and how you guys think I should go about it. (citizenship. That IS the next step am I right???)

Odds are REALLY high that you won't receive the SSN. If I were you, I'd just head to the SS office and fill out the paperwork to get one. That's what we did and we had it after about a week.

I don't know what the average time is to get the green card, but ours was just short of three weeks.

I like you thinking on the bright side that citizenship is next, but it's not. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. We all have to go through removal of conditions to get the 10 year green card first unless the visa was an IR1. After you get the 10 year green card, then it's on to citizenship.

Hmm...well that brings up some issues..lol. If the odds are that we will need to go fill out the paperwork to get one...I'm not sure how to go about doing that just now. The thing is, hubby is in NY and I'm in Michigan....I know the simple solution would be to have him go to the SSA office and fill out those forms and apply for his ssn....But I was just hoping that maybe I could do it for him from here in Michigan.....I'm more familiar with such things than him(we're simply more comfortable with me doing it) we both would feel better if I did the filling out of the forms rather than him...or was at least there to over-look what he fills in and whatnot. And since I can't be there........

Though.....I don't know whether that could even work out myself....seeing as I'm sure they'd want him to be there physically....in flesh n blood...with picture ID to prove it's him...and his passport and visa too. But I'm wondering if I could just have all of his passport info and visa info written down on a piece of paper and go and fill the forms out and apply without him having to be there or go to the SSA office in NY (he barely has the time with 2 jobs and no car...plus he'd rather have me do it if I could, we both would.) Whadda ya say Somber? *shrugs* ^_^

It'll be his card and his number, so he'll have to be the one to apply for it. You can't do it on his behalf. He can download the necessary form online and fill it out in advance which may save him a bit of time at the SSN office. It seems to be a pretty straightforward process. All the info he needs is available at http://www.ssa.gov/.
