SO ventured off the island by himself yesterday to the "big city". He REALLY wants to work!! Anyways, he went to the social security office and filled out paperwork to get his SSN, they told him he'll get it in a couple of weeks. Today my son is taking him back to the city to the mall security to see if he can get a job there. My son used to work there so hopefully he still has some influence.

Hello helloooooooooo

How is everyone doing? Have something exciting to report? Almost all of us are with our SO now, surely there are happy news y'all have got to share?

Did I tell you all that husband's POE is 8.December? :D

Yep, 5 weeks from tomorrow my baby will finally be home. And speaking of home, I signed an application for a gorgeous apartment this past Saturday, I am waiting to hear from them today to see if I got it, and move in date would be November 14. It is so beautiful, I am in love with it, if I don't get this apartment I will die :D

It is a brand new building, and that means that no dogs and cats have pissed all over the carpets and shed their skin and hair there for years. I hate that animals are allowed inside homes, it grosses me out, so this place would be peeeeeeeeeeeerfect, pray for me!

I pray you get it V. I grew up with no animals allowed in the house so we have them in now. Of course I have kicked the cats and the puppy out because they refuse to be house trained so just one old dog who stays inside. This was new for SO.

Hello Everyone,

My wife came in on the 17th of October and her POE was a non-event. She didn't enjoy the long journey but she is enjoying the little bit of Fall weather that we have left here in the heartland.

Did any of you add your spouse to your existing medical benefits?

My HR is telling me that I don't qualify for a Life Event Change and would not be able to make changes to my coverage in the middle of the year because IRS doesn't consider our situation a Life Changing event. I call BS. I think they just don't want to do the work.

My wife didn't work or had medical coverage in India.

If any of you have any helpful documentations or on line links that would help. Please do share. I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks once again....

Hi Lixer,

Glad to hear from you. I think your HR is full of ####### to put it nicely. I added my husband with no problem. The life event change isn't the fact that your wife finally got to move here, but the change is that you got married. If getting married isn't a life event change, I don't know what is! Truly, that's just crazy. I don't have any documents (other than our insurance forms of course), but seriously, marriage isn't a life changing event? I think your HR group is confused somewhere along the line.

Posted (edited)

Went through the same thing with my insurance company. I could have had husband covered if I asked within 30 days of our marriage. I told them it was kinda stupid for me to add him then since they wouldn't have covered anything overseas! Anyways, they told me that moving voluntarily from one country to another is not a life changing event - had he moved involuntarlily then it would have been consider - UGH!!! I too must wait until July next year to add him. Not sure I'll even add him as it will cost over $95 per week, hopefully by that time he'll have a job that provides it!

CONGRATS V & EKLONDON!!! Not to worry HisGirl, you'll be next.

That's great, I can forget about my husband having medical coverage then, that's just great.

I am so happy that he is moving here in the middle of flu season, too

Even if he finds a job the very first day he steps on the US ground, what company will provide insurance coverage before 90 days of employment has passed, no one will. This is just great

Since hubs and I will be moving to a new apt, do you think I need to file for address change right away, that whole I-865 and A-11 deal, or do I not need to worry about it until it gets closer to Adjustment of Status time? The old address they have on file is my parents address, so we'll still get his GC and welcome letter fine...

Your thoughts?

Girly you've already done the Adjustment of Status thing!!! His welcome letter and GC card will go to the address you have on file now. I would recommend you wait until you have those in hand. Our next step isn't for 2 years!!!
