TOTALLY OT but have a question. I'm going to a wedding in a couple of weeks. I don't really know either bride or groom, her dad works with me. Anyways, they are moving to the UK shortly after the wedding (he's here on a visitor visa), what should I get them as a gift? I know she's not going to want more "stuff" to pack and money seems so impersonal. My original plan was to have my dad (a very talented artist) draw a picture of them for me but the picture I was given wasn't clear enough for him to do that so I'm stuck!

When I got married it was the same, we asked no gifts please, because at the end I was gonna move from MExico to the states, and my hubby was about to go to Iraq so there was really no point to it, also it was also just the civil wedding, we are gonna have the religious one later, because is more expensive and requires much more preparation.

Back to your question ha ha, some people gave us regular wedding gifts, some gave us money and some nothing as we asked. From the regular wedding gifts that we got one that we liked because it was simple and not too big to pack and we used it like right away was a silver picture frame, it was beautiful and we both like it, so I would say a picture frame would be ok, they can out any picture of them they like in it.

Or maybe you could get something online from a UK store and have it delivered to them there or something like that?

Hi Guys,

Just stopped by to let you know we had our interview today at the London embassy and were granted our visa. It should be arriving anytime in the next 3-5 working days, so we should have it in hand by friday next week at the latest.

Such a great weight has been lifted off our shoulders, we feel totally elated today.

Thanks to everyone of the February filers who have contributed to this thread and shared information. We are very pleased that we have been able to save a financial fortune by not dealing with lawyers and have done it ourselves with the help of the many contributors to this thread and the VJ website.

John is still here in the UK for another 8 days, then it's all systems go here until POE on 19th Sept.

Best wishes to everyone

Carlish, we did in fact indicate on the DS-230 that we wanted a SSN. So, do we just wait a few weeks to see if we get his card in the mail or should we just go to the social security office automatically 2 weeks after his POE?

Just wait for a couple of weeks, and if the SS card doesn't arrive by then, go to the SSA office. You should be able to find out if DHS processed the SSN application or not.

Thanks ladies. I'm confident, but still worried - does that make any sense at all? I had emailed the embassy last week asking for confirmation and asked if there was anything we needed to bring, I made it "seem" as if I was going to be there at the interview also even though I knew I wasn't (guess I am still hoping for a financial miracle before Tuesday). They responded saying yes the interview is as scheduled and we needed medical stuff and verification of marriage. Well the other day I sent another email and said, "Due to unforeseen financial issues I wasn't going to be able to attend and asked if I could call during my husbands interview. Got a return email this morning and they said they printed my email and will include it in the file. I sent back another email and asked for a number I can call them at. Not sure any of this is doing any good but I figure some contact is better than none.

Carlish - what is pre departure counseling????

I absolutely understand. We just celebrated our 6th month wedding Anniversary and I haven't seen my hubby since February 9th. The waiting is like a roller coaster. You have HUGE ups and HUGE downs. It's funny cause at the beginning of the process my hubby was all positive and I was depressed about being apart. Within the last month I have been the more positive one and he's started to get irritated. Just make sure to wear your seat belt for the ride. LOL
