quick question - how come when I call the automated voice line it is not saying my case is complete?

It takes a while for them to update the AVR. We had an interview scheduled and the AVR still said "The NVC has reviewed your documents...please allow 6-8 weeks...."

Don't worry, when the NVC login happens, it's a foolproof indicator of case completion!

Hi All.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Ben is here! He got through immigration ok in Detroit, but he said that he didn't understand a word they were saying to him. He told me that he kept saying, "i don't understand" (one of the only phrases he knows in english), but they just sort of pointed and showed him where to go/what to sign.

He said that everyone in Detroit was really nice. They had a special immigration line, and he was the only person in it. The only thing he knows for sure is that they said something about filling out some documents for his green card in 6 months. I am assuming that this means that he can expect his green card to arrive in six months... we dont' have to fill anything extra out in order to receive it, do we?

He said that they took a fingerprint and then he had to sign something (but he doesn't know what it was). He also gave me a paper about getting his SSN that they gave to him.

But, he said it was really easy and there were no problems... even though he came through by himself and he doesn't really speak any English.

It is so nice to finally be together... I have only seen him cry once and when he saw Sofia for the first time he was very emotional. It was a really beautiful moment that has been a long time coming...

Thanks for all of your help and support through all of this. It has been priceless and I wish nothing but the very best for all of you and your "visa journeys". :star:

I'm teary eyed reading your post! I'm so happy for you and your family. The best is yet to come...

You don't have to do anything extra for the green card. The officer told us it would be mailed within 6 month, but it's more likely a month or so. :star:

As for the SSN, I assume you guys didn't choose to get it processed when you filled out DS-230? If that's so, make sure to go to the SSA office two weeks after Ben's POE.

TOTALLY OT but have a question. I'm going to a wedding in a couple of weeks. I don't really know either bride or groom, her dad works with me. Anyways, they are moving to the UK shortly after the wedding (he's here on a visitor visa), what should I get them as a gift? I know she's not going to want more "stuff" to pack and money seems so impersonal. My original plan was to have my dad (a very talented artist) draw a picture of them for me but the picture I was given wasn't clear enough for him to do that so I'm stuck!

My original plan was to have my dad (a very talented artist) draw a picture of them for me but the picture I was given wasn't clear enough for him to do that so I'm stuck!

In this case, since you dont know either the bride or groom, I don't think that money would be bad choice. If you still want to pursue the personal gift route, I would ask the dad what they like, what are their interests and hobbies and make a decision on gift then...

Don't take this the wrong way, but if I got one more picture as a wedding gift, either of the two of us, or some nature ####### or sad puppies, I would have to hurt someone. Not one person knows my taste well enough that I would choose to hang their pictures in my home. I cannot display them, but I dont wanna be rude and not display them because they are gifts for god's sake, so these horrible horrible guests have me squirming what the hell to do with their gifts!

Luckily I remembered I was a b1tch and have no intention to display a single one of those items.

On the other hand, ebay buyers will be veeeeeeeeeeeery happy to see some of that stuff online.

In my defense, I did say to EVERYONE that we will accept no gifts. None. Because I knew this would happen.I am very picky. Very, very picky. Stuck with a ton of gold jewelry and pictures and bad china. I knew it. And I said it. People chose not to listen. Well, now they can buy back their gift from ebay if they like.

My mom is in the mode where she is just buying me random stuff for the house, and as sweet as that is I told her the other day I am very particular about what I like, and I don't wanna have 23 mismatched ice cream bowls. I don't care that they were on sale at Target and they're super cute. My dishes have to match,it's the way I like it. And I told her million times mom do not spend money on us, we can afford to buy our stuff, please don't. I begged her, and she doesnt listen cause she thinks as a mom she should take care of me. Now her feelings are hurt that I told her about the mismatched stuff.

Life would be so much easier if people just listened to me.

sorry I ruined your post W, I had to vent a little :)

No hard feelings, right?
