Called AVR and got "missing information, letter was sent May 6th" I was like :girlwerewolf2xn:

Then decided to call operator to find out what I was missing - NOTHING!!! Just waiting for IV Bill to be paid :) Just a bit of a scare!

SO finally got his PCC from Senegal yesterday - WHAT AN ORDEAL!!!!!!!!!! He had to pay a bribe just to get it!!!! The POLICE told him foreigners aren't allowed to have police certificates - #######????? He was so worried about giving the police a bribe for fear he'd be arrested. Thank goodness they just needed an extra 5,000CFA (about $10) and they gave it to him. I REALLY wanted to this whole process completely legal and following all the rules but what the heck are you supposed to do when the ONE AND ONLY place in the country that gives out the PCC's for foreigns refuses to do so????

I'm glad yours was just a false RFE. :star:

And I'm glad your husband's PCC has been taken care of (even if he had to bribe someone to get it). My husband had encounter similar situation. A local PCC normally cost 50 ($1) pesos in the Philippines. At one of the police stations, my husband had to pay 500 pesos ($10) to get it because my husband told them that he needed "For Travel to US or Legal Purpose" to be written in the certificate. He had to explain that in the other stations, they only charged him 50 pesos. They said they would take his 50 pesos but they would not include "For Travel to US or Legal Purpose.'

Well I can tell you from my experience of the Senegalese Government is they make you pay a bribe for everything. When we were married there in 2007 through the civil court after our church ceremony, we had to pay a very large ridiculous bribe just so we could be married before my flight was scheduled to leave so yes it is a shame but that is exactly what they do. Charge for everything!!But I am glad he was able to get it and you are almost done. Very excited for you .

to carlish or to anyone willing to help: for the local police clearance, my husband got one copy and they said he can apply for another one when the interview at the embassy comes...do they really do this? also for the NBI, they said they can give only one copy that is good for one year, he will pick it up on may 18...now i am wondering where can we get it certified, the NBI police clearance? also my husband was able to get another birth certificate and police clearance from pakistan but i was just wondering where we can have it certified in case we need more copies? is it the same as notarized? will they accept this in NVC? we tried to ask the pakistan embassy in the philippines if they can certify a copy of the original police clearance from pakistan but they said they could not do it. anyone have any idea?

Unfortunately, the local police station and the NBI will only issue one copy of the PCC. You will need to request another one before the interview. Make sure to tell them that the purpose of the request was for "Travel to USA" and not for local employment or legal purpose. It will be printed in the certificate.

my husband put VISA requirement for the purpose of the police clearance...is this okay? he paid 250 pesos for his police clearance, they even made a mistake on his age so he had to go back and have it changed and paid another 250 pesos!

Notarized is not the same as certified.

then where can i get it certified if i need more copies

Hey Taj,

I had the similar confusion so just to be on safe side I decided to send in originals then sending any notarized copies.. I believe in India a government officials creates a document with official red seal and ticket stamps of 150Rs. and they call that as notarized in India. but I guess here any body even in the Banks a person can do Notary.. so I guess that is the confusion.. But still i'll send in the originals :)

thank you, i just spoke to my husband and his father is sending a certified and orginal copy of the birth certificate and police clearance. i dont know which one to send to NVC and which one to keep for the interview, i guess ill have to see for myself the two copies when i receive them and decide from there...

thanks carlish, still no NVC number, i have questions for the ds230...

Person(s) named in 14 and 19 who will follow you to the United States at a later date.... we have not yet petitioned for our son (will do this in a couple of months after i pass my boards and husband gets into residency) but we intend for our son to follow later...do we put his name?

In what occupation do you intend to work in the United States?...did you put answers for this question? can we answer it based on my husbands diplomas? (i.e. medical doctor?)

thanks

I can't help you with question 14 and 19, but you may definitely based the occupation question on your husband's educational background.

Typically additional background checks.

I am anticipating getting one because Senegal is a Muslim county and even though he is Christian they will want to do more searching, he was born & raised in Nigeria so they will want to do more searching and since he's black and I'm white they will want do do more searching.

I wish bribe works in Indian Passport office. they are pain in the neck to deal with. Good luck to you all that need luck.

Good morning everyone,

I called the AVR this morning and the message said:

"The NVC has received the checklist letter response on 6th May ..." This is referring to our DS 230. I know via an operator that it was delivered on 4th May and it showed up on their system on 5th May.

Does the fact that the AVR says 6th May mean that someone has picked up the file and is reviewing it??

I sure hope so and am praying there isn't an RFE!!!
