HUMAN EVENTS received a summary of [hr-2], the SCHIP bill, from Dave Camp (R-Mich.), the ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee, when it became available at 5:39 this morning. According to the summary released by Camp this morning, the bill would dilute the focus on America’s poorest of children by opening SCHIP to the children of illegal aliens as the bill eliminates the identity-verification requirements in the current law and severely limits what states can do to attain proof of citizenship. The bill also removes the five-year waiting period legal residents are currently required to wait before enrolling in Medicaid or SCHIP. The bill does not include a cap on income for eligibility which would permit families making more than $80,000 eligible for coverage, whether American citizens or not.

The American people will probably lose as Obama begins his $2 trillion drive to suck money out of the private sector and into put it into anything that will rake in the votes. Obama has already dumped talk about cutting waste but everyone knew that was a lie from the beginning.

The good thing as the economy worsens more folks will be eligible for the programs. Tax, tax, spend, spend, elect, elect. . . this is nothing new.

as long as they are drunk, they probably won't even notice they are being singled out and screwed.

I see it in time dynamics. By the time enough sober up, enough tax revenue should have been generated if things get done right. Then those taxes can be expired after consumption reduces (not likely anyway... addiction is very strong).

I'm not worried about an increase in taxes for health coverage. It's a good way to spend money. Health insurance is a public health issue.
