I'm kinda new to this. My hubby is still not in US, but we've been approved and are working on the NVC stuff currently. I've been in Iran for the past 2 months visiting since 1)it's hard being apart, 2)I had nothing better to do. I got my hubby his Valentines day present a few days early only because I couldn't waitttttt. Here goes: baby turtles!!!!!!!!!! 2 of em! He LOVEDDDD them. I don't really care what I get... I prefer getting creative gifts on days other than the days presents are supposed to be given. It's more of a surprise that way!

thanks girls!

I am so stubborn about having to ask about what I would like but what woman really doesnt want a lil surprise or romance and thoughtfulness on valentine's day? I mean for women, it usually goes without saying...we are thoughtful and remember all the important dates.

We talked about it and I told him like I will get lil things for the kids and of course for him, cuz I love him and I hoped that he would

learn about it and get involved...cuz well....I want to be remembered and we have struggled for so long. From his end it was so hard cuz he wasnt working over there and well I never expected anything from him, I just figured, my day will come and I know that alot of times he wished he could do things for me, take me places and treat me right...but I loved spoiling him, he never had anyone to do that for him in his life.

But now that he is here and working then I think it is only natural that I want to look foward to having some thoughtfulness on this day, our anniversary or any other day for that matter....the only problem being that he cant drive and probably doesnt know the first thing about what you get your lady on valentine's day...so I told him..you know flowers OF COURSE...or maybe even candy....or some men like the lingerie....a romantic dinnner....card...WHATEVER...it could be anything...it could be an engagement ring but the point is just to remember

I sat with my daughter last night while she finished up her valentines for class, she is 9. Remember how fun it was to have a valentines party and waiting to see what candy or cards you would get and from who...and you know you dont forget who you were crushing on and oh god if someone didnt give you a valentine...but the worst are the kids that dont get them...

I think it is mandatory that all the kids include each other..no one should feel left out, alone or disliked :(

We don't normally celebrate any holidays and V day is no different. I'm getting Abdel a new computer this weekend but it's only because I got my bonus and he really needs one, and we pool all of our money. Since it's my bonus he can't tell me how to spend it and tell me he doesn't need a new computer even though his is ancient and constantly crashes in the middle of whatever he's doing.

I'm not into fresh flowers, don't need candy, don't wear jewelry, so I told him that if he does buy me anything a plant of some kind would be nice. If I get something fine, if I don't fine. Doesn't really matter to me one way or the other.

We tend to view holidays in the US as big marketing ploys for industry, and Moroccan holidays too difficult to try to reproduce here after working all day. I guess we're cheap and lazy? :innocent:

I wouldn't do anything too out of the ordinary. If you buy him a gift he may feel bad that he can't do the same for you. Maybe make something really good for dinner and have dinner by candlelight.

this is my husband's first u.s. valentines day he still hasn't found work and i hate to do anything cause it only makes him feel bad.... ideas?

Amal, I need to join also. Hubby is no where around and I am sure he didn't take care of this when he left because he almost forgot my birthday too!

I am sorry but I love flowers.....I need chocolate and quite frankly....my list is long

I much prefer a 5 gallon bucket of sheetrock mud. But I am not normal.

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'
