It depends on the circumstances. If you're talking about the buying power loss from injecting 800 billion into the economy, then I'd say a 20 % reduction in buying power is an easier pill to swallow than going through another Great Depression.

It hasn't happened overnight, but the dollar has appreciated 50% against the ruble since August. Actual (not state-reported) inflation in Russia runs at 50-100%/year. It isn't 1998 yet, but that may come later this year.
