Anyone have any experience bringing your pets (cats and dogs specifically) across the border to the US?

Yes, and I wrote a novelette about it (travelling with our cat) here not too long ago, I will see if I can find a link to that thread

I also brought my 6 cats with us travelling 2 days from South Western Ontario to south of Atlanta, Georgia by car. Do you have any specific questions or concerns we can help you with?

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

My husband brought her down without issues or papers... a year before I moved. I don't suggest doing this though, it's just what we did.

Thanks guys! That link pretty much answered all of my questions. I knew about feliway and whatnot because I've worked in the veterinary field before I just wanted to see if anyone had any troubles at the border, all my pets are up to date on vaccinations and will have health checks done before we go and they're all pretty decent travellers. Just wanted to see if any rules had changed since 9/11 :)

I hope you don't have a basset hound. When I brought her across both sides of the border CBP officer's made me sit in the line longer and remain nervous because they were obsessed with her.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

What kind of pet thread is this...there are no pics :hehe:

Both of my cats died last year and I haven't quite gotten over it yet, so I can't quite bring myself to put any pictures up of them. One was Somber (where I got my screen name) and one was Simone. Somber was 19 years old and I think she knew I'd fall apart when she went, so two days after I left for PEI with Wayne, she died. I got the call from my ex while I was standing next to a lighthouse in North Point. Simone was 18 and was diabetic. I really want to get more cats, but for now I'm sitting tight. 2008 certainly wasn't a kind year to my old girls.

So, in hopes of perking myself back up now, here are my picture contributions. The first is Papi (pronounced Poppy and named after Big Papi (David Ortiz) who plays for the Red Sox). She is a 2 year old Goldendoodle and the biggest sweetheart ever. I know the other pics don't count as my pets, but since they seem to eat all of my birdfood, I feel like I own them... or more like THEY own ME. The squirrels come during the day and wipe me out and the raccoons do it by night.

Oops, the squirrels wouldn't fit on that post.

She is. She's like having an 85 pound stuffed animal to cuddle with. Although a Goldendoodle is technically a mutt in my book, there's something to be said for breeding the most trainable breed of dog with the smartest breed of dog. This is the best dog I've ever owned and a lover girl to boot.
