Medical Appointment

Hi Guys

Just a quick question as I try to plan my next 2 years of my life out. I am currently in Alberta, Canada. Am I correct in understanding that I have a year before my medical examination expires?

Does anyone know if when it comes time to have my medical appointment done, does it have to be done in Canada? Or can it be done in the states when I am visiting my fiance?

Hi Jennleah. Welcome to VJ.

• Your medical is good for one year, however you want to make sure that you have it done as late as possible in the process because you will need it to be current once you get to the US and adjust status. Assuming, of course, that you are applying for the K-1 visa. No idea what the process is with the other visas.
• Medicals are completed by the panel physicians in Canada. You will receive a list of who the panel physicians are once you receive Package 3.
• You will require the case # and the Package 3 letter to book your medical.
• There are only four panel physicians in Canada. See Page 3 of this document for the list.

Sounds perfectly correct to me as I enter into this section of my journey. Vancouver is the only city in the west that still do the physical.

So you have to go to Vancouver to get a physical?!?!? Does that not seem crazy to anyone? That only one doctor in western Canada can do these things? Or am I reading this wrong?

Nope, not wrong in reading that. The doctor in Vancouver is the only one left in Western Canada as of November 2008.

There used to be one in Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatchewan I think, but no more.

Who knows, but man was it ever frustrating having an appointment in Edmonton and then having them cancel 2 weeks before my interview! Arghghhh! Thank goodness Vancouver was so accommodating. I think it is crazy ridiculous that there's only one panel physician in western Canada. You've got to wonder if there's a reason for that though. Who knows!

Well, you've got to go for your interview in Vancouver, anyway, (if you're going for the K-1) so you're killing two birds with one stone. (What a horrible saying. LOL)

Yes, Montreal for you. Guess that's where you'll be getting your medical then, too.
