I think most people get it in about 6 weeks.

There is no way to track it that I know of.

Thank you sir for telling me , well i heard u can track your case after poe , but i am confused which receipt number we will put in uscis website , if u put old receipt number , old one when you applied for visa it will give u status of that case , it dont say anything about green card or welcome letter , i tried alien number but it also didnt work , one thing more i need to know if u go to ssa and if they dont have your record in their computers will they issue you ssn or they will wait once they get update information from uscis , i believe both of them are 2 different departments but still i need to know how do they work together when it comes to immigrant visa ,

i did get ssn and id card but i need to know that it is important for ssa that your immigrant visa information should be forwarded by uscis

I don't think you can track them, and how long it takes will depend on your PoE somewhat, but your welcome letter is in no way late. I also entered via the IR-1 visa and got my SSN in three weeks, but it took three months to get the physical greencard and welcome letter (separate envelopes, but arrived on the same day).

Sure you have a choice - use the endorsed visa (it was stamped at POE with a stamp saying class of admission and date) as it clearly says "upon endorsement serves as a temporary I-551 for a year) - it is your temporary green card until you get the real one.

For SSN by now you should be in the system so drop by the local SSA office with your passport, marriage certificate and ask for the SSN (if you haven't received it yet).

Your emplyoyer will know you are employable since you have temp green card and SSN.

i have already got my ssn and id card here , i got my id card with in a week , i went there and they gave me ssn , IR1 visa is valid for 6 months i guess this is what is written on that , my entry was on jan 17 , i got my visa on 31 december 2008 and it says the visa will expire on 29 jun 2009 , there are indeed 2 stamps i can see on front page of my visa ------------> one stamp i got from my country when i was leaving to states and other stamp i got at my poe that says Admitted JAN 17 2009 , i dont know which other stamps u are talking about the stamp is not clear , but i can read that says "Admitted was jan 17 2009 , the other stuff ur talking about i cant see , . I have IR1 visa and they didnt put any alien number on it , i asked them and they told me your registration number that you got from your embassy is your indeed alien number , i am so confused now , i need help can i go to work or not i dont want to miss any opportunity
